I remember I was at Boomtown in one of the beer tents and there was a DJ playing. He was picking up a modest crowd when his phone ringtone blared out through the speakers. People nodded their heads in disgust and left. If you're going to fake it, at least make an effort and put your phone in flight mode!

Apparently you can now but it still looks like a terrible experience. $499 seems like a total swizz too. And that's the first release price!
Also, who's idea was it to book Blur? Nobody was into it. Nobody was into it 30 years ago (except briefly for 'Song 2') in America. And their setlist only had like 4 actual hits. Terrible.

and right at the point when tech shouldn't be a barrier to entry to DJing no one can afford an industry pair of CDJs and a Mixer - £7k right there - and as the video points out the Denon is half the price and a better product and is itself overpriced- if Pioneer collapses I will laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh

I'm currently using an ancient imac and audcity to record mixes via a mic-input on the mac.
i've a chance to upgrade my mac to a more recent and better model but just noticed that it doesn't have a mic /audio input.
my question is, can i buy a usb audio interface and will it work?

yes! I dont use macs so god knows if they've created some expensive barrier to make that happen but yeah should be straight forward usb plug and play
Focusrite Scarlett are very common relatively affordable and good quality, though they tend to have jack and xlr inputs...more for recording instruments/microphones I would say
Ive got an old a 20 year old MAYA44 soundcard that has only phono/rga ins which is more practical for recording from a mixer I find

my one has had 20 years of use and is still going strong so based on that can recommend
that says compatible with macs and can be useful for other dj software

I got this recently and have been mightily impressed - I've found the Engine OS miles easier to set up and go - no laptop needed - and I'm glad a friend convinced me to buy the battery version.
As it's also got built in speakers, I can just pull it out of the bag and get mixing/practicing without plugging anything in - something that really is convenient. The speakers are surprisingly loud and definitely good enough when you find yourself in a DJ booth with no monitors (I'm looking at you, the Albert).

so I've been going to a studio local to me that offers drop-ins for people to come and practice. they have a full dj set up with cdjs which i've been trying out and i'm impressed.
so i'm looking to get a pair of pioneer xdj1000mk2s. they're a mid level media player but most importantly for me is they support flac files of which all my music is.
apart from the cdj3000s which are like £3k each, I think these are the only other ones that support flac in the pioneer range.
I've nearly managed to save up for some and am very excited. they also have a digital output so i can, if I wanted and I do want to bypass the internal dac and run them through a better external dac for a better sound experience.
I shall report.

Honestly, don’t.
Rekordbox supports FLAC. So unless you already own a top end Pioneer mixer, get something like an XDJ-RX3, with all the latest toys built in, for less cash.

Talking of CDJs Ive got a newb question. How do you rewind a tune on a CDJ and then press a play button so it immediately starts at the beginning. The only way Ive found to do this is to have a cue point at the start and then trigger that particular cue point but I dont think this is what other people are doing - I think there must be a simpler way, or Im doing something unusual

I really want the xdj1000mk2s, they support flac but i have heard that unless you run all your files through rekordbox first you miss out on some of the features on the xdjs? like waveforms and bpms and a few other bits. I have briefly looked up if you can just bung in a mem stick of tunes withoout going through rekordbox and thats what i've read.
I would like to avoid rekordbox if poss but if it means I am missing out on some impotant features on my decks then I might have to go with it

Yeah, you have to analyse your files in Rekordbox and export to USB. This gives you beatgrids, BPM, key, cue points, playlists etc

They are all in one systems, plus can be used as controllers for Serato or Rekordbox.
I have the XZ, it's basically 2 x NXS2s and a DJM 900 in one unit. I run it standalone, and plug 2 x 1210s into channels 3 and 4. It's a great bit of kit.
