Slaven Bilic summons spirit of Winston Churchill.

Slaven Bilic will take inspiration from Winston Churchill for his pre-match speech before his Croatia side take on Spain on Monday.

jesus, Croatia are 10-1 to win ...

Not bad odds really.

Italy win seems on the cards. If Croatia could pull off a win and send Spain home that would be a hell of a thing.

A draw would not surprise me. Both teams are likely to be cautious as a draw will probably be good enough for them both to go through. The Italians are not exaclty goal machines and Ireland's defence has surely got to do some actual defending at some point.

As nice as spains passing is, it can get tedious and can be pretty negative, almost unsporting trying to bore or frustrate the opposition into a lapse.

Not as boring as teams camped in their own half looking to hit the opposition on the break.

tiki taka rules.. hoof and hope doesnt

Yeah because its one or the other...

the way some wannabe pretentious twats talk about tikki taki youd imagine its the only attractive way to play football.

Im confused. Italy are beating Ireland and they are saying that means Croatia are going home and Italy top the group.
But the goal differnce puts Spain top and Italy third. They all take a point of each other and its decided by how much they stuff Ireland by.
How the fuck are they working this?

That's a good point. I have no idea. Spain beat Ireland 4-0? And Italy are only one up.

I think.....

The Ireland results become irrelevant, it's a mini-league of the teams on the same points. Which puts them at two apiiece, with 0 goal difference, but Italy & Spain scoring more. How Italy get ahead of Spain, I have no idea

Yes ive just seen it explained on the guardian blog. Its the goal differnce agasint each other that counts - so cos Italy got two 1-1s they've scored more goals in the head to heads than Croatia and Spain. Its only after that the score agasint Ireland count - which is why Spain are 2nd - fucking hell thats confusing.
So Croatia need to score.
At the moment a 1-1 would send Spain and Croatia through.

Yeah, it's what I said, but I got the team with most goals wrong! Italy scored 2, Spain and Croatia one each. So why do Spain go through??? Does the Ireland match come into play after that?

aha - Tim is ahead of me...

So, England actually want to somehow come second tomorrow at this rate, beat Italy, then Portugal in the semi's.....
