crappiest fantasy books?

the first positive cover review is anne mcaffrey. and they claim it's award winning, but don't say what award.

The Bulwer-Lytton award for fiction.

Actually, it isn't really the writing the gets me about romance authors moving in. It's the abusvie, slightly rapey, adolescent view of relationships that you find legion in the Romance genre that annoys me. That, and a complete inability to vary a plot from book to book.

Another vote for Eddings here, loved those books when I was 12, but those characters, that historical plundering, casual racism and rehashing the whole thing again for 'The Mallorean'...sigh!

Raymond E Feist however had some interesting concepts, his influences are painfully obvious to my wizened, older self, I wonder if they'd stand up to a re-read?
I'm not sure on that one. I haven't looked at them for ages either. But he wasn't as clearly shit as Gemmell or Eddings, who I knew were shit even when I was (alas) thoroughly enjoying them. I'll have to take a look at Feist to see how he reads now.

I wouldn't put eddings on a par with gemmel. Eddings is much crapper. Gemmel didn't fill up the spaces between fights with tedious badly written shit about sparhawk and that twee child-god. Its almost like eddings story bits were a bridge for him to get to the next good bit i.e waylander and his crossbow talki'

I'd quite like to read some crappy, page turny, sub Tolkein pap. GOT ticked that box perfectly. Haven't found anything else though.

there's loads on this thread, examples of what you seek.

I'd go malazan though. its still page turny but it isn't shit

Several years ago my brother bought me about 15 volumes of Gotrek & Felix. Fun for a few chapters. But book after book after book after book?

I'm not even a big fantasy fan.

not as WOW as when i first read them. but they do hold up a lot better.

he does need to stop creating nested enemies. the alien who worshiped the valehru, who was controlled by the witch, who was possessed by the demon, who is created by the dreams of the dead god that was........

the other thing feist does is to stop his books just as they really get going.

Stephen Leathers sub par modern fantasy stuff is staggeringly rubbish and the mans a complete shit to boot
