Concorde supersonic aeroplane, 1976-2003

Yes, as you can see it's totally un-manned, so anyone could just slip inside the airport perimeter, hi-vis jacket and you're all set.
No.
Even 20 years ago they had cameras around all perimeter roads that could zoom in on your face from some distance to clearly identify you to a control room staffed 24/7 by staff from various agences. Because it is critical national infrastructure and the British do paranoia quite well.
You weren't slipping through by accident on purpose.
Not to mention all the plane spotters who hung about in the area too.

Just reading now that India refused the usage of their airspace due to the noise, and that even flying over sparsely populated desert areas - such as the Arabian peninsula - nomadic tribes complained that the noise was affecting the breeding of their camels

Strangely the Iran Air livery is missing…
Seriously, posts like this should have trigger warnings for being too good. Yes the old Air France livery was great (I mean, it made the Caravelle look good) but I'm sad not to see Concorde in BOAC livery. Pepsi can piss off, mind you. A Tizer branded BAC 1-11 would be more in keeping.

Wasn't there an issue as well with the Pepsi-branded frame not being able to sustain supersonic flight for long due to the paint overheating?

Concorde no 5 ticked off at Brooklands today. I am not really interested in cars (or even the engineering bits inside planes that much) so this isn’t a place I’ll return to. But I think for those interested in cars or the engineering aspect it’s definitely worth a visit.

You pay £6 extra for Concorde but also have a “flight experience” which was quite fun and lasts about 45 minutes.

Gone up by a quid! Inflation is getting out of control.

I've done the Concorde experience twice, and I swear I seem to remember the first time round there was almost like a vibration during the take-off sequence that made it surprisingly realistic. The second time there was just the sound effects, and it didn't quite feel the same. My OH also seems to remember there was more to it the first time around.

Am I imagining this? Does anyone else remember loud noises or perhaps vibrations that made you think the plane's wheels were going over the runway lights at high speed?

Where is that? I used to drive past it when I worked at LHR and assumed it had been binned.
Yes, it’s at Brooklands as per Bahnhof Strasse and it’s the old gate guardian for Heathrow I think. There’s a handy lay-by opposite for photos and you don’t have to pay to get into this!

I know what you mean, I think there’s some sort of vibrating / bass thing as I felt something too but it perhaps it depends on where you sit.

It's only in the last 20-30 years that airport security has become serious. As teenagers we used to play cricket in Stanwell, on a ground that is now under Terminal 4. Every now and then a ball got knocked over the flimsy chain link fence into the airport and we just climbed over to get it back.

Security at Aberdeen Airport was beefed-up considerably after 9/11 but for some reason, the stretch of the perimeter shared with the local cricket club was left as a low white fence you could easily step-over. Sometimes the bird-scarer guy sat there in his Land Rover and sometimes got out and walked about with his shotgun but otherwise it was largely unguarded. Of course no respectable cricket club member would ever dream of trespassing on Airport property, would they?

Until the day a video was posted of someone sneaking away from a club event to enjoy a bit of "mile high" in one of the planes that sat, open on a nearby bit of apron whilst they were cleaned/prepped for flight. :D

Is this the road in question?

I remember that road - Been down it several times when the Tube station at Heathrow was closed for various reasons and had to be bussed to Hatton Cross instead. You used to get a good view of the aircraft moving to and from the tech area and the Heathrow Concorde from it.

The vibrations come courtesy of the seats shaking - you need to push back into the cushions for the full affect !
What they can't simulate is the full noise level [just as well, probably].

We was there [Brooklands] a few years ago - at the end of November - and also enjoyed the "flight" ...
and I had several goes at/on the F1 simulation around the banked track.
