Chloe Smith's time is up.

Dystopiary

So we have a new Work and Pensions Secretary, could she be any worse than her predecessor, Thérèse Coffey? Well, I for one am not holding my breath. Her voting record is dire.

I mean, where to start with this lot? It's genuinely difficult to decide which parts to highlight, such is her apparent disregard for her fellow human beings.

Voting record - Chloe Smith MP, Norwich North

She also voted to phase out secure tenancies for life, for mass surveillance of people's communications and activities, and a stricter asylum system. She did vote for equal gay rights and same-sex marriage.
But on the whole, this all paints a picture of the sort of nasty, selfish, greedy opportunist we're used to seeing as head of the DWP; she wouldn't be in the job if she wasn't. I suspect the results of the gross misdeeds and negligence which happen at that unfortunate department will be continue to be posted about in already existing threads. However, she's certainly one to keep an eye on in her own right, so before she's even got started, I say her time's up.

She's an absolute cunt. Seen her interviewed once outside a jobcentre calling for disabled to be in to work.

IIRC Chloe Smith's main claim to fame is making an absolute hash of a TV interview when she was a junior minister.

Didn’t her hubby claim COVID was a ‘mental illness’ at peak of pandemic? Know he was at plenty of the conspiraloon marches.

Oh god some info on that would be good, have a source?

Didn't know about that interview, what a twat.
Grade A cunt.

Smith has consistently voted against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness or disability. For example, she voted for reductions in benefits for disabled and ill claimants required to participate in activities to increase their chances of obtaining work in 2016.

She voted to remove the “limited capability for work” element of universal credit and the “related activity component” from the employment and support allowance.

In 2012, she voted against those who have been ill or disabled since their youth receiving employment and support allowance on the same basis as if they had made sufficient national insurance contributions to qualify for a contribution-based allowance.

She also voted not to make an exception for those with a cancer diagnosis or undergoing cancer treatment from the 365 day limit on receiving contribution based employment and support allowance.

Ah, Chloe Smith, the real-life Ben Swain. I am surprised they found what's left of her after Paxman put her career out by the bins ten years ago. A rising star under Cameron now a half-forgotten has-been. Still even that profile is a distinct improvement on this cabinet of incompetents, liars, thieves, weirdoes, plutocrats, and buffoons.

A reminder:

Listening to Kay Burley and Chloe Smith is hard going. Unsurprisingly Smith defends the ban on bankers' bonuses being lifted and not bringing back the UC uplift. She's so obviously out of her depth and horribly smug with it.

Note how at the end of the interview (1:54 here) she says, "I don't think Labour have a clear vision or path either."
