Cecil, famous Lion from Zimbabwe shot dead by Dentist from Minnesota for $55k

I think I saw that two local guides who had been hand holding this guy have been caught and could face 15 years in prison. Hope the Minnesotan could face the same.

radio news was just saying that as theres now only one dominant male and two prides the future aint looking rosy for cecils cubs.

I wonder if they could remove the cubs for rearing and release them later, rather than allow the new male to kill them - as instinct would insist. To save the genes, as it were.

I have no repeatable words to express my contempt for that thing what shot Cecil. I'll not dignify it with the term man.

Report I read said they were just going to kill the cubs for their own good .

I don't understand the fetishism of wanting to shoot animals with a cross bow. In this case, as I suspect with many others, the animal would only be injured requiring a rifle to actually kill them. Seems extra cruel to me.

Anyhow, hope the local police catch this guy and throw the book at him for poaching.

Again , according to the report I read a couple od days ago the crossbow was used for little more than to keep the kill silent and avoid being caught

wolves, I'm telling you, wolves. There is only one species on this earth that will track as long and hard to a kill than wolves, and that is us. With no helpers or anything- the 'pack' he essentially travelled with, the score would be even stevens. He can keep his crossbow, wolves have got speed and teeth so thats fair. Not even liam neeson could best a wolf pack when they are feeling that late-winter gnawing in their bellies

I think we have to remember that Attenborough, hail be his name, when he started out making programs would travel to special places, watch exotic animals and then kill them and bring their bodies back to the UK as exhibits.
Are you sure about that?

What is wrong with these fuckers? I have no problem with people killing animals for food, but to kill something just for the sake of it... How does that make you any different from a psychopath?
A rare moment when you and I agree about something

Hyenas man . They'll do it for the lulz too .

Also I've long thought it a worthwhile project to start a rumour in china that the balls of a man who has killed a rhino , tiger or whatever have even more magical qualities than the animal itself .

Their balls will be in demand , and not in a good way .

There's an element of blood lust involved in shooting things for fun, which is not even close to fishing on levels of fucking with animals who were perfectly happy doing their thing.

"Hunting" and "fishing" are the same thing, one is on land and the other is at sea. I don't see much difference between people who go out shooting deer for meat and people who catch fish for the pot - and anyone who goes fishing probably recognizes that hunting involves a certain degree of skill and can see how a lot of people enjoy it.

Of course, this dentist differs from your average hunter in the same way that your average sport fisherman differs from someone who would kill a whale shark for fun.

Fucking hell, would love to see those smug smiles wiped off their faces. I can't see why anyone would feel proud abut that, especially when these animals are close to extinction. Plus I can't imagine it's awfully difficult to a point a gun at a big creature and hit it.
you'd better be a good and sure shot to take down a charging rhino because if you miss they will close the distance and fuck you right up. Although I suppose hunters always keep downwind, stalk the creature silently and then shoot it. Wouldn't want a fair fight obvs

I reckon these guys will somehow make sure the odds are stacked well in their favour.

Yes I am fairly sure. I can recall an interview when he was asked about it, it was right when he was starting out when that was the done thing. Don't recall which animals specifically though.

I'm sure he mentions it in his autobiography, but I can't find my copy right now. They also brought back live specimens too, of course.

Why do people who go fishing catch fish then throw them back again?

This small-town Minnesota dentist presumably grew up hunting deer and moose and whatever, became very good at it, and made enough money that he could go around the world killing lions and rhinos and whatever the fuck else he wanted. It's stupid, fucked-up, and selfish behavior - but there will always be people like him around, and I hope some of the wrath directed at him is also directed at the system that encourages it to happen.

US freind of mine is a hunter, as in he goes out with a rifle and kills a couple of dear to fill his freezer. he shoots to eat, or to cull a distressed animal, considers it better if he manages both and regularly cleans up after incompetent cunts in his area who won't track down the animal they injured. if he's to be believed, and there's not a great deal of reason for me not to, the vast majority of those like him who grew up shooting consider this bloke a cunt as much as people here do. this isn't the culture of the people who grew up with hunting for food as normal. it's the culture of a cunt who wants to play in their world and not treat it with the respect they do.

Yes, I heard a report saying that also. But I think this particular guy also prefers to use his bow.

I've read/heard loads of interviews and this hasn't ever been brought up. It's a pretty serious allegation the make with no evidence other than a vague memory.
