Just to clarify, are we talking 'motown' as a genre or Motown as a record label? How do we feel about Tamla/Stax?

A friend put on a Northern soul/scooter do over here in NZ, I got the warm up dj slot. I was just playing a few mp3s while the dinner was being served, not long into my set one punter gets up from his table and marches over to the booth. Gave me a right telling off for playing loads of rarities that he'd got on vinyl singles and was about to play for the main dance. I just laughed with feigned ignorance. We're good friends now...

Hard to choose from so many great tracks but just to give a different slant from the classics - Rare Earth, the first white band on the Motown record label, did some good covers with a more rock band feel...
