Can I eat this mushroom (and not die)

Well it looks OK to me, but you don’t often get mushrooms in suburban gardens in my experience. The gills aren’t white, and no ring - good sign. Has your mum ever tried this one herself?

The risk v reward calculation with eating mushrooms you found lying around in the ground really doesn't stack up. They cost pennies in the shops, unless you know your stuff why bother?
The joy of foraging (not so much in this case), free gifts of nature, better taste (??). I don't think she'd have bothered tbh but there were a couple of dozen so...

Looks like a Horse Mushroom to me so it’s good eating. Just check there’s no yellow staining where the flesh is broken as sometimes Yellow Stainers can be eaten by mistake (not fatal but sick inducing all the same)

Is it this?

If so, yes. If you die, don't blame me.

Are they all this size? I thought it might be agaricus macrosporous, but they’re normally a lot bigger. Let us know your decision. Anyone local whose knowledge and experience you can trust?

The OP says it all.
Not - "I think this may be agaricus lanipes ?", but "can I eat this random thing I found ?"
And why ask on a forum with very few mycologists on it ? (quite possibly none)
If you're interested in fungi, may I suggest you at least subscribe to some Facebook groups ?

(don't ask on there if you can eat a particular mushroom - and definitely not "are these libs? ")

Thanks for all your thoughts. So I cooked one big un, sliced up - they didn't taste that mushroomy, but not unpleasant either. I probably had three small slices.

Two hours later, pulse and heart rate seem OK...

I doubt I'd ever bother with a wild agaricus - it's boletes all the way for me - and chicken of the woods - or at least it will be if I ever find any ...
The only way I'll ever be a regular eater of wild fungi is if I find myself with a regular site...
My plan is to grow my own winecaps, plus a few other species ...

puffballs, shaggy caps and boletus was what we used to pick when i was a kid (berkshire, fields/deciduous woodland) - wouldn't feel safe venturing far beyond those without a field guide and a spore print :D

Saw a completely white spherical puff ball on the side of a track I was walking down on Sunday which I thought was a white tennis ball until I went to kick it and it shattered into pieces
