Brixton Splash street party, Sunday 5th August 2007

There's not enough fuss for it to be guns, I reckon. Nobody seems to be hurt anyway, and there's been no ambulance. Just some boistrousness, I think.
There was a shooting, I'm afraid. No one hurt. Both yours and my streets are cordoned off. I could have been cycling by at that time if I hadn't been wasting time at work posting crap on here. Lots of sirens going on. Hope it hasn't escalated:(

Jesus Christ. Not another one.

No escalation yet. Just six shots and Brixton high spirits. Check out the soundsystems. Nuff police. Imagine that some communities don't live in permanent fear of youths with firearms! I'm pretty sure it's not their fault, though. I'm sure I saw Society running away down the street with its head under a hood. It's a chilly night.

The funny thing about the Splash itself was that there seemed to be substantially fewer people around than on a normal Sunday in Brixton. Maybe it was the heat. Maybe they knew something.

The streets were packed when I was there too, from around 4:00 onwards. Shame the Alabama 3 weren’t there but was an excellent way to spend a summer’s day anyway.

i didnt think it was good as last year. and last year wasnt as good as the year before. but i had a good time anyway. luckily the albert managed to keep serving bulmers even if the chances of pints were hit and miss.

oh and it was packed it took me 5 or 6 minutes to get to teh dog* from the albert. mind you most of the crowd were inconsiderate that poeple might want to move around.

there were really fat crowds around two of the speaker stacks. Weirdly, both sound systems had no crowds round each of their other speaker stacks. It was like everyone had to be on the left side of the mix or something.

there was at least one person with the worst sunburn I've seen in this country. we did try and get the police to take them away, but they said they couldn't nick white people for being dumb in the sun - go figure?

I have seen stranger local festivals. But only because I went to the Haringey Green Fair. This one seemed to be being enjoyed by all, and felt like it was actually a festival belonging to the people there.

Oh, and I got to dance like an idiot in the Albert. Spirit of LDRudeboy, I think :D :D

Blimey. The Albert rocked like fuck tonight!

Me and Dub ended up putting a near*four hour* back to back DJ set. :D

Fucking great night.

Word is that it was some halfwit firing off bullets into the air.

I had a great day and it was a top atmosphere most of the day. I think the sun meant people were getting a little more easily frazzled in places but generally everyone was very chilled :)

I feel shocking but had the good foresight to take today as holiday.

Dub/Ed - who was that version of California Uber Alles you played by? I *need* that in my life! :D

Very good crowds around by the Ritzy and Windrush Sqiuare area for the live music.

The police really need to sort out the parking on Railton Road, can't have parking on both sides with the busses coming through. People were stuck for 45 mins plus.

Right, that makes sense. Fools. At least it was the air and not some poor sod's chest.

What a fab day/night  why can't we do that every weekend in the summer. The sound on the corner of Electric Ave were dropping some fat old school garage, dancing in the street just like early Notting Hill. Want more!!! Rounded off the fabby day with a rip roaring set from The Ed and Dubs a la Albert, bliss.:)

I appear to have broken myself.

(Anyone else catch The Thirst on Windrush Square? They were tops.)

I got my wires crossed & thought this went on until 2am.

Of course we can't be trusted after dark in London though can we.

Rolled up about 10pm I think, after being at the Shoreditch Festival all day.

I think we finished around 2am in the end, although the bar stopped a bit before that. Seeing as we'd started at 5pm I was fucking knackered, and my ears are still ringing from the beefier PA they brought in.

The Albert was really busy all day while the Dogstar apparently had just three people in it around 11!

Had a brilliant time! :D Feeling rather rough now though. I'd have loved to stay at The Albert longer, but it was a struggle enough getting up as it was. If I'd stayed later, I'd wouldn't have made it into work.

Nice to meet nipsla and memespring. :)

I woke up still pissed. Enough so that I wouldn't even consider cycling in today. Whoops. Luckily it's not too busy at work.

Fab day though. And it was great to see a few people I haven't seen for aaaages, like Mrs M and Blagsta etc.

Yeah, I meant the actual streetparty bit. I was in the Albert until way after 12, but then really had to go home!

I think I must have got me wires crossed cos your email bulletin said until 2- it must have meant the pub, not the streetparty! So it's your fault!
