Brixton Splash street party, Sunday 5th August 2007

The Albert was really busy all day while the Dogstar apparently had just three people in it around 11!

I was in the Dogstar on Saturday night and it was pretty empty then. Nice fit out (I haven't been in for a few years) and friendly staff but shit DJ.

It looks loads better inside, but the security (full airport-style body frisk down) isn't exactly welcoming and there are some 'issues' that really need sorting out in there.

I think we finished around 2am in the end, although the bar stopped a bit before that. Seeing as we'd started at 5pm I was fucking knackered, and my ears are still ringing from the beefier PA they brought in.

I'd bet there was still a bloody queue at the bar at the Dogstar.... it's one of the least efficient bars I've ever seen. Unlike the good old Albert.

I'm guessing that by the attention you're getting from the guys on the left, you were lugging your big camera around at this point, yes?!

:D

Yeah, that was taken with my SLR. I think people were more interested in why someone was taking photos or whether I was a journalist or something.

These girls deliberately got in my shot to have their photo taken

nothing like stating the obvious there!!!! hehe..

really glad they have carried it on.. i take it blacker dread did his usual and blasted everyone out with his reggae all day.. still its all good for Brixton to have something like this.. that was the origional idea.. i just hope it builds on itself in years to come..

There's certainly an audience. Yeah, it could have been better planned, but in some ways the ramshackle approach is more appropriate to Brixton :)

twas the same last year.. the problem is that there are a couple of people there who want what they want and are not really to listen to others input.. its the 'i know best syndrome..' i gave up on it all last years in the end.. after some sterling work by certain people the self nominated chairperson took all the credit.... as others grafted their asses off the certain person walked around like a headless chicken.. its only down to the genuine people in brixton to keep events such as this moving forward.. and by looking at the pictures posted it seems to have been a very popular day.. mind you, you didnt get the downpour this year that was very beneficial to The Albert last year..

It was very enthusiastic. But despite the photos of the crowds at the top end of CHL it was pretty deserted at the sound systems on Atlantic and on CHL by the Satay bar. Maybe it picked up after 4. The stage on the square was good too. They'd have done better spread less thin, that's all.

It was great. I spent an whole hour there before baby afternoon nap time, dammit. I was just saying.

And I'd have preferred not to have the Trident leaflet through my door this morning but wouldn't we all?
