Boxing

Malignaggi was well schooled by Khan once Khan found his rhythm. Although the fight was stopped in the 11th, I think Malignaggi could, and perhaps should, have been pulled out a round or so earlier. He didn't really have any answers to what Khan brought into the ring tonight.

A solid victory for Khan rather than a spectacular one, but a won's a win and they all count.

Professional job, death by jab. PM does tend to hang around from what i've seen (not that much tbh). Will get other people thinking khan's well takeable though.

Downloaded this and just watched - was a very thorough job and an advert for the old-school virtue of keeping your hands up. Not seen any of the others in the division the commentators were bigging up as likely next opponents.

I love these sort of photos:

As with boxing it's all very round robin.

The top 4 in the division are

Timothy Bradley
Amir Khan
Devon Alexander
Marcos Maidana

Bradley and Alexander are both unbeaten whereas Khan and Maidana both have 1 loss each, Khan against Prescott and Maidana against Kotelnik, who Khan beat remember.

Bradley is the guy who beat Junior Witter a cpl of years ago and since then has beaten Kendall Holt, Nate Campbell and most recently Lamont Peterson. Nate Campbell is the guy who fought on the same bill as Khan on Saturday but was beaten by Victor Ortiz (the Golden Boy of Golden Boy), who in turn was beaten by Maidana who in turn was beaten by Kotelnik (split decision) who Khan beat.

Alexander also beat Witter last year and in his most recent fight beat Juan Urango, who Hatton beat a cpl of fights before his Mayweather fight.

The good thing is, all of the above 4 are 26 or under, 2 are 23 (Khan and Alexander) and Maidana and Bradley are 26.

Khan's interview when he said there should be a mini super 4 is a great idea, and hopefully it'll be sorted out.

As for Khan on Sat night, it was a professional performance alright but let's not forget it was against feather fisted Paulie Malinaggi, and he did catch Khan with some shots that someone like Maidana who's a banger may have hurt him with.

Maidana has 27 KO's in 28 wins so is dangerous.

But his defence, although at times leaky is definitely improved and he's with the best trainer in the world bar none in Freddy Roach.

He's definitely improved and will improve more, and he's only 23, so I can't wait to see what he does.

This is Albert Sosonowski who is the next man to take on Vitali Klitschko at the end of the month (29th)

Good to see a Heavyweight in good nick for once (it seems). Be great if he could beat Big Klit, but :('ly not most probably.

it would be great if a shock could happen as the Heavyweight Titles are not as big as they use to be.
the biggest news was when David Haye won but otehr than that the main focus has been on the Lightweight Light-heavyweight bouts

Abs don't mean shit. I remember so called boxing fans going on about Lacey's abs and saying he was going to batter calzaghe. I would prefer Vitali to win and a big fight at some point between him and Haye.

I don't just mean abs, that man obv' is fit, unlike some of the clowns the Klits have been fighting, look at the state of Arreola when he fought Vitali.

Haye, Adamek, Sosonowski, the Klits themselves - all in good nick which is how a pro athlete should be.

Even if Soso' loses, it would be great if we see a good decent fight.

Ryan Rhodes defending his European Light-Middleweight Title against Luca Messi tonight peeps.

Loved Rhodes last fight against Jamie Moore, was wicked.

Rhodes looked pretty good too, let's hope he gets his world title shot soon.

1st episode of The Ricky Hatton Boxing Show

I like it.

Ta for this, Numbers, still haven't had time to watch it all the way through, and Ricky obviously isn't going hungry.

Onto this weekend's action, it was great to see my only man-crush, Miguel Cotto, fighting his way back into top-level contention against Yuri Foreman. There were plenty, myself included, who thought we had seen the best of him, but it looks like Manny Steward has given him something new, he was defensively better than we've seen him lately, he jabbed beautifully and moved well, matching Foreman across the ground. All this in front of a proper crowd at an outdoor stadium, not some casino.

After a prolonged lull, we're starting to see some top-flight action again. Devon Alexander was outboxed by Kotelnik last week but got the decision, if Kotelnik could punch like Khan he would have stopped him. This week another much hyped American, Chad Dawson, is exposed by Jean Pascal. How much better do Khan and Froch look after this? There was lots of crowing when Calzaghe retired that he was afraid of Dawson, but as it turns out Calzaghe was right not to regard him as a worthy opponent.

Fuck me! Spoke a bit too soon there - he got hit by an absolute bomb! The gypsy king barely survived the round.

anyone else found that their channel 5 signal is just showing a black screen? aghhh wanted to see this fight all week.

loads of people on twitter saying their screen was just showing a black screen to....its back on now, in round sodding 5.

Thankfully for those of us in the C5 blackout areas they showed round 2 to the end in the 5th later on! Agreed about the ref's decision but Tyson Fury is really good to watch. There was more action in that fight than any number of 'technically perfect' heavyweight contests i've seen in years. Excellent entertainment from both fighters and thats what it's all about

The knockout and butt are both on youtube. Deliberate planned butt and mayweather was more than cheeky. But Ortiz's pathetic attempt to kiss and hug him made me lose any sympathy. Both pair of muppets last night really. But, back in the real world, don't do that to Mayweather in the ring or that may happen to you.

Fury's great. I'm a fan, and I think he has the potential to do great things. But the ref's stoppage devalued his win a bit I think. Firtha was no more rocked at that point than Tyson had been earlier. I'm confident he would have won, but he should have been given the opportunity to actually do so.
