Basic DIY questions?

Looks like the valve/hose connector is a bit wonky so possibly where it’s leaking. See if you can totally dry it then see if that’s where it’s coming from. If not, will be where the hose connects.

Dry first then then have a look
Thank you :)

Having dried it first, it gets wet just above the plastic - the hose connector? What's the difference between that and where the hose connects? (Reading comprehension fail!)

Saying that, looking closer, can you tell if that water mark down the front goes behind or is in front of the metal crimp just below the plastic hose connector?
The water mark goes behind the metal crimp.

KNOW WHERE YOU STOPCOCK IS FIRST.

Try tightening up the plastic hose connector. Might be able to by hand, might need some pipe grips.

Um, I don't know where the stopcock is, even having googled for a picture of one. Rubbish, I know

Can you see it in any of these pics?

You might just need to re-bend the flexible pipe so it's not pressing on the fitting at an angle. Try and make it perpendicular.

Nothing in there looks like the stopcock though. It will be wherever the mains water enters the apartment, but that might not be obvious.
It is one of those things you 100% need to know though cos if anything anywhere springs a leak you want to be able to close it.

It will look like a large lever tap (like, large enough to grab with your whole hand) or a simple outdoors tap handle. You'll know you've found it because if you turn it 90 degrees (big handle kind) or tighten it up (tap handle kind) then all your taps will lose pressure and slow to a trickle and then nothing.

Ah, I was wondering about that, as I'm not sure what position the hose was in before.

Just did this, pushing a bit of the hose through that hole which goes behind the dishwasher.

Ran the tap for a bit and it's still completely dry at the moment 🤞🏾😎

Is the stopcock the tap here, then?

That's the only thing like it I can see. Upstairs. Slightly weird layout from when the building was converted into flats.

Yes that looks more like it. Turn on a tap in the bathroom/kitchen then go and turn that thing all the way clockwise. If the tap stops running, then you've found the stopcock.

Hmm. Turned on a tap in the bathroom, which backs onto the left wall in the pic with the pipes and tap. But the tap (on the rightmost pipe) won't turn any further clockwise.

Not quite directly below that is the space under the stairs. One cupboard under the upper flight of stairs was turned into a loo, some years after the initial flat conversion, and access to the plumbing for that is via a perpendicular cupboard, under the lower part of the stairs and landing. Can't quite get in there at the moment to look, though, having moved stuff back in front of the door (to be able to get to other stuff).

But perhaps it's (been moved?) there...

No problem with trying to tighten that hose connector as the isolation valve is directly above it. If there's a problem just turn that valve through 90° to cut off the water.

Not sure those sockets are legal being fitted under a sink. :hmm:

Does it turn in either direction?

It's not unusual for them to be rather seized up. Something which is not a welcome discovery during a water emergency.

They’re fine :)

I have a few of my own
That's useful to know. I'd assumed the sockets under my sink - with a piece of plastic bag taped around the top of them to stop water getting in :hmm: - were just another of the many things here that're dodgy as fuck and probably not allowed.

There’s nothing in the regs about it but common sense should prevail.

Yes but it might have been ok when it was done. They are not retrospective.

Make sure your hands are dry ;)
Oh it definitely wasn't done with the building regs at that time in mind. Iirc at least one local electrician has refused to do any work here. They dug a pond in the field inches above the cable from the massive wind turbines ffs.

Compared to the state of the plumbing it's actually quite reassuring that I've only had one electrical plug melt a bit without properly catching fire.

But anyway. Didn't mean to divert the thread from helping get Mation's issue sorted, sorry.

No. It doesn't. Hmm.

I'd expect that area to be ok, as I've just had a fairly big plumbing job done there, to fix a leak from the pipes running between the washing machine and shower. It included relocating a pump from under the tiles in the shower, to the more accessible boiler/washing machine cupboard (where the pictured pipes and tap are) in the room that backs onto it.

It went well, but I'm wary of cackhandedly disturbing anything :hmm:

Uggg. 4 days off work starting tomorrow, had holiday to use. And we're decorating. I hate decorating. One day I hope I'm rich enough to just pay someone else, but it seems unlikely. Just changed a light switch as I'm working from home and not busy. One tiny step forwards. I should probably brave the sleet thats happening outside to get the hoover from the garage and get the cobwebs I've now noticed everywhere.

For reasons best known to myself I am considering removing part of the back seat of my car, doing so will give me more space on the occasions when I need it. I would need to reattach occasionally, eg for MOT

As far as I can tell the seat only joins to the car frame via the nut at the bottom. What tool should I be using to detach / reattach?

I hope to have a go at doing this in the next few weeks

No idea, but I don't think you need to put it back for MOT. I had a Berlingo I had a seat removed to make it easier to sleep in and never had any problems MOT time.

But I cheated and got my garage to do, so can't help. Sorry.

Thats why I would want to remove it too, to open up the chance of car sleeping. This is just the bottom of the rear passenger seat.

The back of the seat is separate and looks too hard to remove. But also don’t need to remove it as when it’s folded down it is flush to the boot floor, when it’s folded up it keeps the boot separate from the rear cabin.
