The conversation has moved on since I've been away, but I meant: why was this news in UK? News in Germany, obviously. And it seemed (to me then) clear that it was news in the UK because people were quick to make the ISIS connection even before the evidence was in. Attacks on public transport are not uncommon but hit the international news when the perp fits a certain profile. (It's like the time when Alsatian dogs were always biting babies. There was a story every day. The reports seem to have died down since, but the biting continues.) The news reporting is adding to the terror narrative. That's what I meant.

But yeah, I was wrong. He was avenging. He said so. And I don't reckon he's 17 either. :oops:

ETA: Munich now... Shit. Somehow I don't expect it's just a jilted john exacting revenge on humanity.

Germany machete attack: Syria migrant 'kills woman' - BBC News
A machete attack by a Syrian asylum-seeker has left one woman dead and two other people injured, police in south-western Germany say.

Witnesses said the attack happened after an argument developed between the man and the woman in the town of Reutlingen, near Stuttgart.

Police said the attacker had been arrested and there was no indication that it was terrorist attack.

Someone will probably pay for it. There was a woman in the UK a couple of years back that offered crash victims a sit down in her undamaged car. Then the fire brigade turned up and cut the roof off it, standard practice once the folk were complaining of back pain.

Vauxhall gave her a replacement, good bit of PR.

But yeah cars deform pretty easily for pedestrian safety so our counter-terrorist BMWer probably has a bill right now.

The German system does have programmes for underage migrants, but they can only access them if they have adequate, strong documents with which they can prove their age (this is Germany, after all, the land of 'your papers are not in order').

The German authorities have also been known to x-ray the wrists of asylum seekers, in order to ascertain their true age (I'm not sure if x-raying wrists can actually do that, but that's why they do it).
