So tomorrow is long jump, javelin, and 800m.

Can't remember what the general spread is on those in terms of KJT v Thiam. Think Thiam has traditionally been better at the throwing, about equal on the jumping, and KJT is the stronger runner?

Yeah, she's not so good at the javelin but good at the long jump/800m.

Getting really annoyed by the fact that USA have about three different designs for their athletics kit this Olympics. They need to sort it out

Ridiculous stats. Only 2 women have run under 51. She did 50.37.

She jumped over hurdles but with that time would only just have failed to make the 400m (flat) final.

How far is that line from the finishing line? It's obviously either 10 or 20 metres. That's how much she won by. The woman who came second run a personal best.

That was very special! Always a great moment to witness a world record but even more special when done like that.

Only one woman in it, Sydney in a different league and scary to think just what she could lower this new WR to in the future.

Poor Femke was distraught after, didn't give her true running but when Sydney put her foot down round the final bend - she absolutely broke Femke. I think a lot of people appreciate the efforts she gives to her country in the relays and we love her for it but maybe it's time she was a bit more selfish!

Not saying she will ever beat Sydney when Sydney is probably the most talented athlete of a generation but the distance between them tonight is down to Sydney 1st but also maybe Femke being tired as well when she was beat.

I did wonder when Femke did the relay whether she would regret it. I didn't think she would be in it tbh, individual medalists usually only do relays if they are after their main event.

I think she wanted to make up for when she fell last year - admirable but I think the amazing effort over that lap must have cost her.

Not taking anything away from Sydney though. She's been in brilliant form this year and this race showed that. She broke her own WR - you can't get any better than that. Wonderful stuff.

Congratulations to Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone on what may be the athletics performance of the 2024 Olympics. A shame that we did not hear from her on the BBC.

Malaika Mihambo had a disastrous evening yesterday:

And COVID played its part in her defeat apparently - she had it two months ago, and thought she'd recovered.

She's usually very patriotically colourful in her hair but has now started adding accessories 👂 🪽View attachment 437324View attachment 437325
Has no one told her that birds wear feathers precisely because they are good at blocking air (and therefore creating drag)? She couldn’t choose anything to wear more effective at slowing her down (in relation to their weight) than feathers.

What next, a rubber belt tethered to the starting blocks?

Bloody hell, that Canadian middle distance runner, Arop has really butched out. Someone's been eating his weetabix!
