I never knew that, it seemed to be what made the Jamaican changeovers awkward looking but I think the outgoing runners went off too soon as well.
I guess you're passing palm to palm, which is a more natural motion for the person passing, rather than trying to 'backhand' it to the person receiving?

It's probably how you'd more naturally pass it if you were just standing next to each other, I think

I used to be fast (but not a contender). I ran relays (county schools) with people much faster than me (it's what eventually put me off and me me realise no, I'm not fast). Endless training on passing the baton. But we were taught left/right/left/right even though this combination is not set in stone. The theory is the the bend runners have the baton on the inside, allowing less resistance for running on the curves.

You're also taught to slap it into the next runner's hand, quite heavily.

He was just walking round with a very intense look, basically frowning. Don't think I saw him smile or celebrate in any particularly obvious manner.

<edit: sorry, just realised the confusion may have been over the phrasing. I meant presumably winning a gold is not what he's angry about, rather than he's angry he didn't win a gold  >

Lyles in the wheel chair. Maybe he might have done a bit better if he hadn't burnt himself out with all that ridiculous leaping around and yelling when he was introduced.

His mum died 2 months ago. She's missed his greatest moment.
ETA Guess it's like the British cyclist yesterday who was really upset despite winning a medal cos her dad had been her biggest supporter and he died last year. Guess you experience all the emotions all at once. (I'm sure Tebogo is super pleased, just finding the immediate aftermath tough.)

Tebogo has run the race of his life and eased down to that time! 😮 Lyles would have had to have been at his very best to match him but I don't think he looked right the whole way round. Again, Tebogo was stunning and one of the fastest 200m runs ever but the way Lyles couldn't go with him surprised me.

Already more concern on the BBC for Lyles than that guy who got knocked stone cold out in the steeplechase yesterday 🙄. Still haven't heard anything about him today. Does seem quite worrying.

The lovely Tara Davis-Woodhall absolutely showing out in the long jump, could end up being the best series of jumps in a competition ever.
