And well done to the British women for their bronze in the 4×100m relay. 👏 They did really well (and realistically third was the best they could ever do bar someone dropping the baton) against ridiculously good US and Jamaican teams.

Question though. What's with so many athletes all wearing the same pink trainers? In the 5000m final, at least half of them were. :hmm:

Calli Thackery became the second fastest British woman ever over the marathon distance at her debut in the event today.

She finished the Bakerline McKirdy Marathon in 2:22:11 today after Charlotte Purdue ran 2:22:17 at Berlin last month.

Am a big fan of atheltics and watch regularly, anything whenever it's on TV right upto the Olympics :)

Back to the Diamond League now Paris is over and the last few events culminating in the finale. Always interesting to see how Olympians and in particular champions fair again against the competition.

I missed this when you posted it originally.

It's questionable given her power of 10 - look at her 5k/10k times.

Purdue's marathon is legit. I am not surprised at all that Thackery pulled out midway through the Olympic marathon.

Wow, Jakob Ingebrigtsen just amazing in breaking the 3000m WR. One of the great WR's as well by Daniel Komen from 1996, been smashed from 7:20.67 to 7:17.55 🇳🇴

Just seen this - was watching 10 mins behind. His best distance really.

I had expected this to go after he broke Komens 2 miles record last year but by 3 seconds is a huge margin

I can only think that if you get an all time great in a discipline that's maybe participated in less generally, then the dominance of those will be more noticeable.

World Under 20 Championship starts tonight, 9:50pm on red button/iPlayer from Lima, Peru.

I wonder if vaulters start out as sprinters, as I think a lot of long and triple jumpers do. Vaulting obviously needs more upper body strength than the others, but sprinters are generally pretty buff.

Yeah they will all have good basic speed, men likely to be 10.5 or so 100m I guess. I think pole vaulters tend to be converted sprinters or perhaps multi eventers

There’s an American female shot putter - forgotten her name but lots of tattoos and interesting makeup - who was also her state u18 / u20 100m champion with a sub 12 second 100m time. perhaps she will have bulked up to throw the shot but the explosiveness you need for throwing events is allied to speed / fast twitch I think.

That’s why decathletes hate the 1500m as it’s the only event that’s aerobic rather than anaerobic

I get that. Daley Thompson was apparently 92kg, and Dean Macey was 6"5, so I suspect even heavier. If you're in the lead going into the 1500 at least you know what time you've got to lug yourself around in.

Duplantis (Swedish pole vaulter) v Warholm (Norwegian 400m hurdler) races over 100m tonight - a bit of fun basically

A lot of waffle but the action begins at approx 25:00

That is a very good time even for a 100m specialist. No doubt that’s a big part of his advantage as a pole vaulter.

Yes he would have good raw speed as his event is basically running fast with a pole in his hand.

Josh Kerr vs Ingebritsen in a bit race at 1500m (it’s on bbc 2 now)

Diamond league final tonight and tomorrow 7pm both days, bbc 2 tonight and bbc3 tomorrow

Huge lineups across multiple events

Mens and women’s 1500 look tasty, as do the 800m races. Probably too late in the season for a world record but who knows

Possibly highlight will be the women’s 400m hurdles Olympic champion Sydney Mcaughlin running at 200m and 400m (flat). Interesting to see what time she does especially at the lap

Just tuning in, can't wait! Should be good :)

From the lows to the highs of sport in a matter of seconds!

MHS pulls up in despair then I was thinking "Charlie Dobson's still in this" and he overhauls them all to win! :)
