Americans: why don't you use kettles?

I would love that! FYI I can get PG and other Imported brands at the grocery store but they're expensive. I usually stock up on nice quality teas at TJ Maxx

Have you checked Dollar Tree (or something similar)? I've noticed that dollar stores often have European import foods really cheap.

You might also check smaller grocers. I have one near me that used to be an independent grocery store. To survive in the age of chain supermarkets it reinvented itself as a "gourmet" store. I can get everything from hob nobs to oat cakes.

Interesting, but nah I have shopped around and the best deals on really good quality imported food items is TJ Maxx & Marshalls I am fine with that because I don't mind changing brands I like to try new things

There would be no headlines because you all wouldn't be able to function in any way and would probably just go into a catatonic state :D
m8 the reaction to weather here is frankly ludicrous. One of our right wing papers is constantly threatening DOOM WEATHER that never happens. Its also obsessed with Princess Diana, house prices and cancer.

Yeah, New Yorkers are famously hardy and never use even the slightest weather abnormality as an excuse not to go to work.

Which makes them more sympathetic over here tbh.

I bought some cargo shorts in Target in Miami. They were rubbish. My current pair, from our own dear Primark are much better.

getting snowed into a pub would be on my bucket list if I had such a thing

Oh oh oh, I sort of got snowed into a pub once. Well, not really, but snow and a pub and not being able to leave were all involved. Went to see Forest v Spurs (I was sat right by the pitch and Sheringham stuck his arse in my face during a throw in from the side), and it was snowed off (they even brought on the orange ball for a while at first), so we went to the pub. Some twat from Spurs threw a bunch of CS canisters through the windows of the pub. Front half was evacuated, the rest of us were penned in up the back, and weren't allowed to leave until the police came and all that. Then I got a taxi home and my mum was really mad that I was late but what could I do? The police wouldn't let us leave. And it was in the days before every teenager had 6 mobile phones and 3 ipads to network them to the outside world 25 hours a day.

I hear that it took them until the 1800s to have a decent civil war.
the war that no one ever wants to talk about is my fave. England was being a right cunt to america for general principle given that our ruling classes are arseholes. So we had this brief second war with america for no discernible reason. Burned down the whithouse. One of my faves in it is where one state declared nuetral and allowed brit ships to use its ports :D talk about goal hanging...

Isn't that why the White House is white? Because of the white paint to cover up the scorches. Or is that apocryphal?

its the only time an american president has been shot at in a war situation*, thats all the apocrypha I know

*obviously not counting Grant and all the other early presidents who grew up in a log cabin raised by single mums and fought in the civil war. Not counting them cos they were not in office at the time

Weirder one was Wilkes Booth saved Lincoln's brother from death exactly a year before shot Abraham
