american frosting

Well, went to a few in Edinburgh over the course of 7 months, so not in London....still, even if they did have some of the same stuff, for the most part the selection is very, very different!

I wonder if the "frosting" they're looking for is that ungodly stuff cheap bakeries put on their cakes made from cool whip. It's fluffy and never sets up. If so, here's the recipe:

1 c. cold milk
1/4 c. powdered sugar
1 sm. box vanilla or chocolate instant pudding mix

Beat on low for 1 minute. Stir in 8 ounce thawed Cool Whip.

Whatever those ingredients may be Yuwipi, it could well be it :D

I am going for it tomorrow, so thanks all for the various recipes, some will get tried and tested and scoffed and rejected... I still reckon its going to be a buttercream with fresh cream type.. Maybe a Ganache... We shall see....

British Chinese food:

Firstly, let’s look at a tremendously popular dish for many Brits – Crispy Aromatic Duck. It is in fact a tasty dish that I order once in a while. However, it is not Chinese. This dish is a British invention, mixing Peking duck with Sichuan style duck. Although it is tasty, many Chinese people consider it dry (the duck is deep-fried) and therefore a waste of a perfectly juicy duck. ....

If you like Chinese food, I would encourage you to try some dishes that the Chinese eat regularly to broaden your enjoyment. A word of advice – most Chinese takeaways cater to non-Chinese and very low budgets so they will offer anglicised dishes with low quality, frozen ingredient.

Of course, we're no different. I love a dish called Hot Potato Pork that I get at a placed called Yangs. It's slices of pork and shredded potato stirfried with chilis. It's very good, but its certainly not authentic.

I really dont see a problem with this. Different regions have different ingredients available. It makes sense to change with the environment, while incorporating basic ideas that culture has about food. :)

I actually had peking duck in edinburgh. It was one thing that was basically the same, and I found it comforting.
