Alternative Euro 2004: U75 Team Needed

sorry, i cant ignore this as hard as i try  no offence, but you have said this before, yet you stayed in defence for a whole..ooh five minutes from my reckoning. i know you were pushing up to support midfield and pressure the opposition, but you never seemed to track back. looked like playing in midfield to me, sorry
I was playing in midfield after 5 mins! I played left midfield for pretty much the whole game, just like I was asked to... :)

looks like there's been some confusion.. if BH thought he was playing midfield, then that'll be why he wasn't in defence..! maybe some wires got crossed? i have no idea.. i was up the other side of the pitch, but it sounds like this is the case..

I have about five pairs of shin pads. I'll bring a few.

I've brought some socks and shin pads. I've been dancing round the house in them and they feel lovely.

It was a little more than 5 minutes when they swapped, but the point at which they swapped was when BH was at left midfield rather than right midfield.

:p

As for formation, lets not be prescriptive. If it works, it works, if not, change it. I think what's important is that our 8 players can all move about; no-one is significantly worse (or better) than anyone else, and hence there'll be no worries about having any individual on the pitch.

I'm starting to wind myself up... I need to practice my dancing for if we win (as agreed in the pub!) too! :)

If the rest of the team agrees, I would rather play in left midfield than in defence. I believe I'm better there and I'd know I'd enjoy the game more. However, I don't mind playing in defence if the team think it's better for me to be there.

It's another option anyway.

lol, what are you like...

Rudeboy - the problem is that with such small sides 'left' or 'right' aren't really strict. Its more 'slightly left of centre' or equivalent. There's not enough players to have a winger.

So if you are playing left midfield, its really supposed to be centre midfield.

I think you did really well at the back in the second half. I didn't see the hissyfit, but I was thinking when I heard about it that you had an U75 family... Missuz Scott, Lilmisshissyfit, etc...

My (limited) impression is I think BH is like me. I have played in every position in 11-a-side, but I can't play right/ left back, because there's rarely anyone to mark directly, and I go wandering too much. I like attacking. When playing centre-back, I am not allowed to leave a striker behind me (unless I've actually got the ball/ am covered by the R/L back or midfielder or its a corner/ free kick).

FWIW, I think BH is the most skillful player in the team. On his day I think he can win a game or two for us (hence when he's not playing well its very frustrating!!)

I'm so up for this, but I don't want to lose.

Can we also agree that if people say anything that may be taken as criticism, in advance, we do not mean it personally and we do recognise that we are not always right (especially in the heat of a competitive game) but we should try to be positive wherever possible?

(you can replace the 'we's with 'I's)

Shit, I didn't think anyone would remember. I do not remember agreeing.

I also have to point out that doing the whole routine twice leaves me injured! :( Weak thighs!

And I'm shit. :(

Morning... another day - another half dozen pages of tic tacs. I'm ready for this, is all I have to say. I'm gonna probably let some soft goals in. make some blinding saves. eat good food. are we allowed a beer during the day. generally have a tremendously enjoyable day out.

peace

tonio el goalio
(I was telling mrs1798 last night about that name and she was cracking up)

effectively, three at the back, but relahni pushing up when needed / possible, to support ringo and filter. ultimately a central defender though and must be first priority

ringo and filter in midifeld, with filter pretty much playing slightly ahead of ringo, in a more attacking role, feeding through and teaming up with flimiser where poss.

this is NOT necessarily cast in stone for the whole tournament by any means. brixton hatter gives choices in defence which in turns gives choices in midfield. but this IS the team for the first game.

:)

everyone needs to be at the park for 10am, please. let me know if you would rather meet up at the tube or just there? PLEASE remember to bring food for the day. think energy think pasta and such like. and deffo plenty of fluids (water, not beer!!!) i will provide oranges for half times :)

tis gonna be good lads, tis gonna be good !

coz i dont think anyone took any notice first time round

bh was told to go in midfield by relahni (i think) probably due to the fact that he wasnt staying in defence anyway. running up field is fine if you can run back. comments about how far you have to run and how knackering it is are all well and good but if you are a defender running up field of course you are gonna get knackered running back all the time  dont wanna dwell on this, its getting silly.

dont wanna start changing round everyones positions either. sorry scott, you are left defence. not saying you are necessarily gonna be there for the whole tournament, just that if we all start swapping positions now we might as well bring in new players and start all over again to build up a system that we are getting close to nailing.

nothing is prescriptive flimsier you are right, but rather than have 7 headless chicklens on the field i thought it might be helfpul to have some idea of what each should be doing / taking reponsibility for. :)

come on lads, why start worrying about where we are all playing now? the tournament is TWO days away. think positiive. we have the skill and determination to do some teams over good and proper and thats all i for one am interested in now. start believeing and you'll be surprised what we can do

As Flimsier said it's more left central not hugging the touchline, but it's an excellent suggestion imo LD and gives us more options.

The way we could play as long as everyone agrees is switching positions. As far as I'm concerned Flims, BH, Sleater, Ringo, Chris Filter, and myself could play in all positions. LD could play left of centre defence or left of centre mid.

I say mix it up. Keeping the same player in the same position make it a bit stale imo. Swapping positions keeps us all happy and gives the opposition something to think about - also gives the midfielders a breather.

I'm happy as long as I'm on the left. :p

Had a bit of a sleepless night last night as my chest still aches quite badly. It really hurts if I take big breaths. I'm sure it's just a pulled muscle so hopefully be ok for Sunday.

I’m going to have no alcohol from now until after the game too. I’m looking forward to this and I’m determined to get stuck in and make the opposition scared of me. ;)

Apols for the post after this one - we must have been posting the same time. From my own point of view what you say goes from now on. If it is ok with you, I'll make suggestions but it's up to you my dear. x

All Rollem's decisions. I would like to just respond to Relahni that if we are winning, it'd be silly to change anything. Don't change a winning team n'all that!

:)

I'll be down sunday cheering you lot on from the sidelines....I can even dispense cider as and when required....look out for the mystery spanish team..... :D :D

no cider for the team until then "end" thanks cheg :)

nothing mysterious about this "spanish side" and we aint scared of them either, right lads ?

Err, yeah, whatever Rollem says.

We promise we're not scared - especially if they are drawn in the other group <crosses fingers>
