Mr Beardy Drummer
My cat hated being picked up. Loved a good old belly stroke though. She would also lick my ears to wake me up
btw lots of otherwise very affectionate cats hate being picked up. ime cats at best only tolerate being picked up - none of them actually likes it.

If a cat doesn't like being picked up, don't pick it up! Cats normally don't like being cuddled much either. Strokes, yes please. Arms around them squeezing, no thanks.
Inside or outside?
I gave Artichoke a netbook for her birthday (extensive travel, blah blah blah).did anyone mention putting a jumper of yours or summat else you've worn and will have your smell on it in there too? ime cats never sleep in lovingly prepared spots, but they usually find somewhere they like for themselves and you can put it wherever that happens to be.
cats falling into baths pwns even cats falling off radiators

I have had a few comedy moments where people overhear me talking about them and think they are humans.........
Alan?
wtf?
And what is wrong with Alan? Its perfectly good name for an elderly ginger gentlemancat.
The box from it has proven to be the best present Nigel's ever won.
Unless he puts a pile of clean laundry there instead, still warm from a radiator or drier....at which point kitteh decides they don't like sleeping there any more, thanks very much...
When one of my cats was a kitten and new to the house, she decided to investigate the bathroom whilst I was in the bath. She hopped up and walked along the edge and slid in. She never did walk along the edge of the bath again
patience is the name of the game. But if he is happy to have a wander, even with the big scary man in the room, this is good. As others have said, just ignore him for a good few days in order to let him suss out his surroundings and get his head together.I left the conservatory kitchen door open this evening as I saw the cat had moved in the room and eaten his food. A little while later the cat came into the lounge and spent about ten minutes pacing around miaowing. My guess is he was trying to say "Let me back outside, you bastard!" He climbed back on the desk a couple of times and looked forlornly at the still-shut window.
Still, I think it's a good sign that he was able to wander around in the lounge when I was in there, although he did run away if ever I moved suddenly. But I hadn't expected to see him today - I thought he would stay hiding in the conservatory for a good while longer.
