Beaches

I cried when I watched it first time but watched it during lockdown and thought it was just middling in terms of acting and storyline. Awful script. Great song.

I will say it was a rough decade for Oscar winners. Out of the 10, I'd only want to watch Amadeus over and over again and maybe The Last Emperor wasn't too bad.

I think my five favourite 80's movies were

Plague Dogs
Stalker
Flash Gordon
Videodrome
Ran

Not necesssarily in that order.
Being picky, Stalker's 79.

I was chatting to a friend about that film recently, and he called it The Stalker, which I'd never heard before. It's never called The Stalker, but I think it probably should be.

I've never seen Plague Dogs. One I should watch.

I've tried to enjoy ET I really have but it's just so boring. I'm not 100% sure I have seen it the whole way through just because so little of note happens and it just won't hold my attention. My recollection is Goblin, teddy bears, army men, push bike, moon, spaceship. Somewhere in there it points at a phone. I feel like I've spent days watching it and that's all I can tease out.

If you can ignore the reaganomics and the fact Venkeman's obviously a rapist it's still a good watch.
Saw it at the cinema in the 80's, enjoyed it. Recent re-watch found it to be dreadful, only managed 30 mins

A couple more worth mentioning (even though the OP has obviously been completely obliterated already)

Women On the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Come and See
King of Comedy
