4 to 5k to spend on an estate car?

Juicy as hell.

I seriously considered one of the silly quick Volvo T5's. It would have been a lot of fun, but I'm doing serious millage and I'm rather glad I didn't. Still I can put my foot down and overtake on a hill which I couldn't before, which is still a win I suppose.

Cops have them for a reason. Except unless you got an ex squad car off the auctions yours would have a limiter and would need re-chipping.

TBF top speed isn't that interesting as you can't use it unless you want to rip you license into tiny bits.

T5s aren't that fast, they are pretty fast at a price point, which is what public servants work on, they can keep up with most stuff in a straight line but are awful in the twisty stuff, then, there are a lot of faster cars (cheaper as well).

Skoda Octavia, turbo diesel, went in one the other day that had done 250 000 miles, without serious engine probs.

A while ago my missus was thinking about getting something more pratical, something for carrying the elderly parents around in Etc. So I suggested one of these. Seriously, very practical, well looked after, never thrashed.....

Mondeo is a good pracitical choice. I am looking at a Skoda VRI estate at the minute for meself. I would have chipped in earlier about Volvo estates, esp the V70- I do love them but there are buggy as fuck and are not as well engineered as in the days or yore- lots of issues that can get expensive very quickly

Late '70s. Ma in law should not by law of averages still be here. Don't alter the fact that a hearse would make a great used estate.

Some have an extra pair of doors. The one picked is well and luxuriously equipped, with 4 seats. Probably a very good ride.

100s of years ago, I watched a hippy film called Alice's Restaurant in which they drove around in what I thought was a hearse:

I loved it at the time and thought it'd be brilliant to have a a camper. Turns out it's something called a 'flower car' used in funerals; the one in the film is a '53 Cadillac.

If you fancy a converted hearse - try visiting Whitby during one of the Goth weeks.
There are usually several to be seen, although one of the regulars looks more like it escaped from the Addams family !

(nuts, I can't find my photo ...)

:(

air bags are quite helpful as i found out when i discovered someone had deactivated it on the old 206..

any crash you can walk away from is not as shitty as it could of been

I would - beautiful.

Insurance not done proper assessment yet, but seem to think so if airbags deployed.

I just spent 400 on a clutch and 80 on a battery

:(

OEM airbags cost more than the car to replace, even when nearly new, so the insurance will be right, at least on their terms. You could replace them from a used car yourself - explosives! fun! - but only if the remaining damage is manageable.
