2 weeks - Vietnam and Cambodia, or just one?

Yes , I had a good time in Koh Rong, snorkelling with the fluorescent plankton. I missed going to Battambang (if you're on your way to thailand I guess). Phnom Penh you can do in a day really I thought. I met some people going on a big motor cycle trip off the beaten track. This sounded alot more fun than anything I did tbh. there are way more bits of undiscovered temples around Siem Reap that probably take a bit of local knowledge.

Sorry, I've not read all this thread today although I read most of it at the time it was posted.

Anyway, I'm off to Vietnam for three weeks at the end of July. We will probably visit another country as well. What I want to know is which is the best site to get a visa? there seem to be loads of them. If possible I'd like to have my visa in my sticky little hands before I get there otherwise I'll spend all my time in the air worrying there won't be a visa for me when I arrive.
Also. As I don't know yet which other country we'll visit, do all the countries around Vietnam require visas? Ill probably not find out for a while which other country we'll visit as I'm meeting my son in Vietnam and he's planning our trips, I just know he'll leave it until the last minute.

The visa situation when you get there can be really confusing. They told me I had to fill in a VOA, despite having a visa....... then they called me to give me my visa before I finished the form.

Make sure you have 2 passport photos, they looked at me like I was absolute scum when I said I needed my photo taking.

Back in my day, I had to go through the tour operator for the visa. On the final flight into Saigon, we had to fill out a lot of forms, some of which were declaring we were not taking a certain sort of book in and also not taking in or out any local currency Etc. Mostly, we had no idea what the forms were asking.

Enjoy Nam, it was brilliant and I wish I was coming!

All the countries around Vietnam require visas but you only have to apply in advance for Vietnam and Myanmar. All the others are visa on arrival. They all charge something. Cambodia asks for payment in USD and they all need a photo except Thailand.

I used Vietnam EVisa and it was totally smooth on arrival.

Also (slightly tongue in cheek but genuine advice) - bring a pen! We spent ages trying to find one at Siem Riep airport.

I have been siphoned off from the back of the queue twice in Cambodia by some random official for the visa issue- same price , same process, same visa but quicker - I think he just pocketed the cash

Cheers for the info. We may well go to Myanmar as I have a friend who runs a health program there. I'm generally leaving it up to my boy though as he works and lives in Vietnam for now and he's offered to pay for any of our excursions.

So if I get a visa before I go do I still need two passport photos and will I need two more if I go to another country?

I went to Bangkok first and used s service there for all my visas. Took 5 days
I've already booked my flights to Vietnam so need to sort that visa first. I doubt I'll go to Thailand this year although next year my niece is having her 50th birthday party there so who knows :)

After nam, I would not bother with Thailand. A massive disappointment for me.
Yeh, I'm not fussed about Thailand. I'm not ruling anywhere out though. I've been to half a dozen European countries and California and a bit of Mexico but I'm now realising that there's an awful lot of world that I've not seen. I really regret not going to Ruanda when my son was working there so from now on, I'm turning nothing down :D

I don't remember much of beaches in Nam other than the notorious China beach and the beautiful NhaTrang. But you are right ,each to their own...the vietnamese people were beautiful.

Erm, I've still not applied for my visa. My son says I'll need multiple entry, will the Vietnam Visa Choice offer that?

Why do you need multiple entry? Are you leaving then going back in?
Yes, we want to visit one or two other countries.
Just spoke to my son and we are now thinking of maybe Cambodia and the Andaman Islands. This could change though.
I've just booked an appointment at the travel clinic at my doctors surgery. I didn't know such a thing existed.

Just back from almost 3 weeks in Vietnam/Cambodia.
Everything about my holiday turned out to be easy and straightforward, no problems. Two amazing countries with so much to see and the most wonderful people.

Can't talk for Cambodia, but I also thought Vietnam was a amazing country. I just wouldn't want to get into any trouble there.

Heading to Vietnam for Xmas/New Year. Only going for 10 days so there's a lot we'll miss out on but I had to be sensible with the itinerary.

I'm really looking forward to it, finished booking all the flights and accommodation today so I'm feeling really excited.

No need for your last emoji.

Spend more time south of halfway.
