Wasn’t so keen on Phong Nga itself, the town, but the caves there are wicked. I think one of them is the largest cave in the world and apparently some British blokes ‘found’ it quite recently
Then I went to a little coastal town an Australian friend of mine recommended, Dong Hoi is the name. Stayed in a chalet right on the beach for 4-5 quid. The old church (which was almost completely bombed out) is the only remaining structure in the town from before the US campaign
Yeah I asked for them but they weren’t in town. There were some alright Aussie blokes who seemed a permanent fixture in the outside seating area, knocking back the Bia Saigons.
They’ve opened-up a curry place right next door too.
Vinh Moc tunnels, 16 of the 17 babies born down there are still alive and living in the surrounding area. Would be amazing to meet them but dunno how to go about it.
During the Vietnam War, the city of Vinh was almost destroyed by US bombing. Socialists around the world helped rebuild it. Today, Vinh's architecture stands as a monument to that internationalist solidarity.
I have a friend from Hanoi who claims Vietnamese people are mostly lazy, which contradicts what the French used to say, that: ‘The Vietnamese plant the rice, the Cambodians watch it grow’ Fuck what they think anyway..
