Thatcher Death Disco

rosa

anger is an energy
i'm putting together a playlist for thatcher's hopefully imminent death (although if she could hang on long enough for me to learn how to burn audio CDs that'd be very helpful), any suggestions? So far i've got:
Fiesta (pogues)
Maggots 1 Maggie 0 (Attila the Stockbroker)
Oh Happy Day (some gospel choir)
Celebrate the Day After You (Blow Monkeys)
The Day That Thatcher Dies (Hefner)
Highway To Hell (AC/DC)
i will of course be adding Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead but i'm planning to download that the day she dies as part of the campaign to get it to number 1.

I ain't gonna work on Maggies farm no more. That wasn't a song suggestion it is just that I have resigned from working for Thatcher.

I'll be screaming the lyrics to NIN's Heresy in the face of anyone I can find defending her

If I can find anyone willing to mourn her in a town that got right fucked by Thatcherite policies

like political discourse hasn't been irrevocably wrecked by the things she set in place and like that doesn't affect all of us labouring in the current system.

Granted but faux hate because its "what lefties do" is fucking puerile and totally transparent. It's almost as a big of a cliche as make poverty wrist bands and che tshirts.

The Readers Digest Bluffers Guide on how to Become a Socialist.

Democracy Doesn't Work. One Solution Revolution. Smash the State in my Nike trainers.

what was it called... the chorus went something like
long strong black pudding up Margaret Thatcher

?

this is going to bug me. it was by The Scaffold and it was during the milk snatcher campaign....

Whatever happened to childhood?
We're all scared of the kids in our neighboorhood;
They're not small, charming and harmless,
They're a violent bunch of bastard little shits.
And anyone who looks younger than me
Makes me check for my wallet, my phone and my keys,
And I'm tired of being tired out
Always being on the lookout for thieving gits.

We're all wondering how we ended up so scared;
We spent ten long years teaching our kids not to care
And that "there's no such thing as society" anyway,
And all the rich folks act surprised
When all sense of community dies,
But you just closed your eyes to the other side
Of all the things that she did.
Thatcher fucked the kids.

And it seems a little bit rich to me,
The way the rich only ever talk of charity
In times like the seventies, the broken down economy
Meant even the upper tier was needing some help.
But as soon as things look brighter,
Yeah the grin gets wider and the grip gets tighter,
And for every teenage tracksuit mugger
There's a guy in a suit who wouldn't lift a finger for anybody else.

You've got a generation raised on the welfare state,
Enjoyed all its benefits and did just great,
But as soon as they were settled as the richest of the rich,
They kicked away the ladder, told the rest of us that life's a bitch.
And it's no surprise that all the fuck-ups
Didn't show up until the kids had grown up.
But when no one ever smiles or ever helps a stranger,
Is it any fucking wonder our society's in danger of collapse?

So all the kids are bastards,
But don't blame them, yeah, they learn by example.
Blame the folks who sold the future for the highest bid:
That's right, Thatcher fucked the kids.

NWA - "A Bitch Iz A Bitch"
DJ Assault - "Fuck You Hoe" (plus a myriad of other tasteful Assault ditties on the fairer sex)

No Government - Anti-Pasti
Arrrgh! I used to know that bunch of pricks - still, the song does at least name Thatcher.

I have a cassette of something called (IIRC) Acid Party which is a dance track with Thatcher's voice on it compiled from cut-ups of her speeches, so she sounds like she's saying 'Acid party, come to the rave!' and other groovy things. It was done around the time the Tories enacted legislation to stop raves in the late 80's - quite clever it was, for the time. It was done by some kid in his bedroom, I sent off for it from the NME, there were only a couple of thousand made I think. It's maybe findable on soulseek. Anyone else here remember or have a copy of this?

There's an whole compilation on here somewhere (well there was - listening to it now)

AHA! Knew there had to be something like that on here somewhere, nice one.

I'm sure she has family and friends whose experiences are well known to her.
Indeed, and my own experiences (a childhood blighted by my dad's unemployment, his infamous "what am i supposed to tell my kids? That Santa's hung himself in red tape?" phone calls to the DHSS at Christmas, watching my brother disintegrate in anger and grief after Hillsborough - which she takes a large chunk of the blame for IMHO - AND SHE STOLE MY FUCKING MILK) weren't exactly cheery. Actually maybe she's done me a favour, maybe i could write about How Thatcher Ruined My Childhood, WHSmith's could stock it in the Tragic Life Stories pile...

There are other compilations around (such as Helga's? ;) ) but 'Tramp The Dirt Down' by Elvis Costello has gotta work ... :)

'Margaret On The Guillotine' as well ... :p

I thought about them but i'm wondering if they might be a bit downbeat for when she actually dies? Cos the rest is gonna be very chirpy, i'm seriously considering adding Ooh Ah Just A Little Bit...

Aye. I've got a copy of it. It's called Maggies last party

"Angel's Delight" by The Fatima Mansions.

Not specifically about Maggie, but it captures the spirit, if you see what I mean. :)
