World Cup Gambling Thread

I'm not the biggest gambler in the world, but always like a flutter on the big football matches and tournaments. And we always get an entertaining thread for the gamblers when something like this is on.

France 18/1
Colombia 28/1
Italy 28/1

Honduras 7500/1

I'm considering a tenner each way on the Uruguayans, England seem massively overpriced at 33's but then they always are. Not sure why there isn't a price for the Aussies.

An ignorant writes: is there a particular reason Colombia are ahead of the likes of England (I know, but I'm just going on past bookies odds), Netherlands and Portugal? Is it basically "South American tournament + Falcao"?

France ahead of those teams too! And Germany ahead of Spain is interesting too, though far less of a surprise.

At this early stage, its pretty much a market based on guesswork. Until the big leagues are finished, the bets are pretty speculative. There could be a whole heap of injuries in the final stages of La Liga that could affect Spains chances for instance. Germany are always in the top 3 due to their excellent world cup record.

I don't know much about the Colombians though, if I'm honest.

I'd have money on Argentina tbh - Messi - coming back to his best after hammy injuries, Huigain - regurlarly scoring for Napoli and Aguero who still needs to get fit but should be ok.

I fancy Belgium to make it to the Semis, what's the odds on that?

3-1 with Bet365 (http://www.bet365.com/home/FlashGen4/WebConsoleApp.asp?&cb=10881731310)

Not a bad bet, but a bit short priced. The 4 favourites (Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain) would all be heavily odds on in a game against Belgium, but it depends on the draw; if say one were to mess up and not top their group they could be knocking each other out before the semis and Belgium would be one of the favourites to get there instead.

Based on one game in last year's Confederations Cup, which they lost, I'm backing Japan to make the QFs.

Once I've taken a look at their group and the following rounds :hmm:

I mentioned this elsewhere, but if you havent already opened accounts with the online bookies & check out their spcial offers, you can make some cracking bets for a guatanteed return if you place properly

Freddy Guarin was always my first target in FM 2006. Nice to see him being a key player for Inter and Colombia. I had a divil of a time trying to get him to sign for Drogheda United.

It's hard to imagine semi-finals which are not Brazil v Germany and Spain v Argentina. If I put a bet on, it will be on those exact semi finals - after that - anything could happen

I took a punt on Germany at 11/2 yesterday. Also had an accumulator on each group winner, & top goal scorers Reus & Messi.

Going to put an acca taking in every group game will be interesting to see what odds I get . There are a few games that will be hard to call, but I think the majority of them will go to form.

So, having not done online betting before (save for a flutter on the Grand National with William Hill in 2005 :hmm: ), what's the best way to take advantage of all those juicy "join us and get £1,304,234-worth of bets freeeeeee!" offers? How do I get the most for my gambling cherry?

^^ if you havent opened up any accounts before, then you are quids in - I have caned my free bet offers and they wont allow me to open another account to get more freebies

plough through this lot and see how much you can wager to get freebies and arbitrage the games where possible and you are guaranteed a return, you can do this with spreads as well, but thats a bit riskier and for more experiened only - some wont let you pull down your winnings immediately though,so read the T&C carefully

its good fun as long a you can turn off after the WC

Um.. wut? :hmm:

;) :D

May have to find Online Gambling for Dummies.

arbitrage is locking in a profit- so if you have an agile mind and free / matched bets to play with, you can potentially back both sides through different bookies and guarantee a return whatever happens

placed £1 on this and potential returns are £1,000,000 :D

BetFred are doing a 20 game fixed list with a top prize of a mil. 25 quid guaranteed for getting the first 5.

(also, let's see your list so we armchair gambling pundits can ridicule your England to beat Costa Rica. I like your optimistic style!)

I saw that "brazillionaire" might have a £1 on that though they have picked tough games to call .. Most of them likely to be draws
Will upload picture of coupon later

So far all I've had is Benzema top goal scorer - £20 @ 25/1. I think it represents decent value considering 1) he is likely to be first choice once the tournament gets underway 2) France's group has to be the easiest with Switzerland, Honduras and Ecuador.

limited to a million quid but if you assume average odds of 4/6 (1.75) then a 46 game accumulator should have odds of around 150milllion/1!
