The thread is called Wings Over Scotland. That's a website about Scottish politics and the media, primarily.
It uses the internet (and some print media, occasional interviews) to bring quick replies to 24-hour 'reporting' and more considered replies/comments on ubiquitous things. It constantly challenges other media...tv, print and online and encourages comment. From 2011 it has grown quite large and attracted a lot of views and comments. It links to many other sites. I found Michael Greenwell and Lallands Peat Worrior from there.
It is very successful, and the emergence of Scottish political enlivenment has gone hand in hand with that almost in sync. Anyone who visits the site would know that, the list of contributors is impressive.
There's a lot to discuss about that...especially as it's in the Scotland Forum on Urban.

I don't think the money is an issue. He was quite clear what it was for, and people gave him it knowing how it would be used. Much of it was to pay his wages, and the donors knew and wanted to contribute. That's up to them.
However it also helps explain why he gets so much leeway. People literally have something invested. People don't like to think they may have funded something worthy of criticism, so they resist that criticism in order to convince themselves that they haven't been foolish.

Nonsense...all of the accusations being thrown here are from long before the fundraising. Wings raised over £100k after all these attacks (you think this stuff is new? It's not even the best it's been done.) And currently gets more hits than it did a year ago.
