Who else worships Chicago house?

Paul Johnson was great - sad times.

I note that Peacefrog have a reissue of his classic '95 double LP for a tenner on bandcamp - tempted to pick it up, it's solid throughout

Wow, rip. Absolute legend. Was just saying to my mate today I'd heard no news since he went on the ventilator and he shared an article saying he was now breathing on his own, so I was feeling hopeful.

What a shit day for music, K Hand and Paul Johnson :(

He was shot in 1987, seriously injuring his leg and forcing him to use a wheelchair. His injured leg was amputated in 2003, and a car accident meant his other leg was amputated in 2010. .... “The crappy life I’ve had health wise, that’s been nothing, man. That’s just been a shadow to what I’ve been doing, I don’t even see it, nobody sees it. It’s all about the music.”

Thanks for posting all those...loving these three particularly atm. Welcome to the Warehouse
Interesting consdiering Get Get Down in the context of his wider work, particularly the Ghetto House stuff....to me that tune was just a slighlty annoying "club" dance track taht you couldnt escape, but hearing it next to what else he was up to gives it new context.
I had a similiar experience with Bucketheads Bomb "these sound fall into my mind"....also a bit annoying, but now knowing it was by Kenny Dope and also knowing the original sample I have more appreciation for it...goes to show what overplay, marketing and context can do for a track.

this is cool too off his first release I think - Lil Louis sampling

he knows how to rinse a groove

enjoying this very much:

This is mega. Must confess I didn't really know much about Paul Johnson, obviously recognising some tracks now but he'd passed me by for the most part. This was the music that really got me into house and I now realise I hardly knew anything, I never really got past Todd Terry.

i think it was Daft Punk’s Teachers and their Essential Mix that got me into him and other Chicago madness. though was into Robert Armani and all that loopy Relief stuff before that. Relief Records were awesome

My mate Phil introduced me to all this but it never grabbed me as much it did him, I moved on to techno/progressive house with a sprinkling of NY house (Junior Vasquez etc.). Progressive house meaning the good stuff before sasha and digweed went all epic, Fabio Paras, Darren Emerson, Drum Club etc.

Relief was great, always an interesting listen.

I must also admit I have been the world's worst train spotter. When DJing and people asked me what I was playing I had to check the label as I always knew it by sleeve only...

I have been actually dancing round the living room to this. 24 mins drop is
