Say you put a tray of spuds in to roast, certain sides or the back or front of the baking tray will go browner first IFSWIM, so do all ovens do the same or is it just mine?

What kind of oven? I find gas ovens have pockets of uneven temperature. I've got an electric fan oven, and it cooks pretty evenly.

The inside. :p

Fan ovens shouldn't have a 'hottest part' but as heat rises the hottest part should be at the top. :)

Next time you put a tray of spuds in the oven whichever side of the tray goes brown first is the hottest part of the oven. Turn the tray regularly to get even heat. :)

So you're saying there IS a hottest part (other than the top obviously)?

The top

Try baking/roasting something for the same amounts of time - put one at the top and one at the bottom

The top will always cook faster

No, you're saying there is a hotter part of the oven. You've prooved it by saying one side of a tray of spuds browns faster than other sides in your first post.

Make a note of which side of the tray browns first and that's the hottest part of your oven. :)

My oven's hottest at the top and at the sides. I cooked 3 pizzas in the oven; put them all on the same shelf side by side (I have a 6 ring cooker so am able to do this) and the ones nearest the sides cooked the quickest. Dunno if it's the same for all ovens tho.

Righto, but I was also asking if other ovens did this or was it just mine. Is it normal or is my oven fucked?
