Can Maoists and Tankies be friends?

The Maoists agreed that the tanks should have been sent into Hungary in 1956, and indeed they criticised Khruschev for not sending in the tanks earlier, his failure to do so giving the “counter-revolutionaries” time to organise.

However, the Maoists disagreed with the USSR sending tanks into Czechoslovakia in 1968. The Beijing regime had fallen out with the Moscow regime, and the USSR was “state capitalist”, and thus the deployment of the Soviet army in Prague was “social imperialism”, said the Maoists.

I understand that in past 40 years these positions have evolved, and I have no idea what Maoists would now say about these matters.
