What lyrics are you listening to now? (pt2)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of deaths construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds, oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning
As the war machine keeps burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of God has sturck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings
All right now!

Mother said,
"Straight ahead,"
Not to delay
Or be misled.
I should have heeded her advice...
But he seemed so nice.

And he showed me things,
Many beautiful things,
That I hadn't thought to explore.
They were off my path,
So I never had dared.
I had been so careful,
I never had cared.
And he made me feel excited-
Well, excited and scared.

When he said, "Come in!"
With that sickening grin,
How could I know what was in store?
Once his teeth were bared,
Though, I really got scared-
Well, excited and scared-
But he drew me close
And he swallowed me down,
Down a dark slimy path
Where lie secrets that I never want to know,
And when everything familiar
Seemed to disappear forever,
At the end of the path
Was Granny once again.

So we wait in the dark
Until someone sets us free,
And we're brought into the light,
And we're back at the start.

And I know things now,
Many valuable things,
That I hadn't known before:
Do not put your faith
In a cape and a hood,
They will not protect you
The way that they should.
And take extra care with strangers,
Even flowers have their dangers.
And though scary is exciting,
Nice is different than good.

Now I know:
Don't be scared.
Granny is right,
Just be prepared.

Isn't it nice to know a lot!
And a little bit not

Into the woods,
It's time to go,
I hate to leave,
I have to, though.
Into the woods--
It's time, and so
I must begin my journey.
Into the woods
And through the trees
to where I am
Expected, ma'am,
Into the woods
to Grandmother's house--
[mouth full]
Into the woods
To Grandmother's house--

Wife: You're certain of your way?
LRRH: The way is clear,
The light is good,
I have no fear,
Nor no one should.
The woods are just trees,
The trees are just wood.
I sort of hate to ask it,
But do you have a basket?

Baker: Don't stray and be late.
Wife: And save some of those sweets for Granny!
LRRH: Into the woods
And down the dell,
The path is straight,
I know it well.
Into the woods,
And who can tell
What's waiting on the journey?
Into the woods
To bring some bread
To Granny who
Is sick in bed.
Never can tell
What lies ahead.
For all that I know,
She's already dead.
But into the woods,
into the woods,
Into the woods
to Grandmother's house

She was young, she was pure, she was new, she was nice,
She was fair, she was sweet seventeen.
He was old, he was vile and no stranger to vice,
He was base, he was bad, he was mean.
He had slyly enveigled her up to his flat
To view his collection of stamps
And he said as he hastened to put out the cat,
The wine, his cigar and the lamps

"Have some Madeira, m'Dear!
You really have nothing to fear.
I'm not trying to tempt you, that wouldn't be right;
You shouldn't drink spirits at this time of night.
Have some Madeira, m'Dear!
It's so very much nicer than beer.
I don't care for sherry and cannot drink stout
And port is a wine I can well do without.
It's simply a case of "chaçun à son goût".
Have some Madeira, m'Dear!"

Unaware of the wiles of the snake in the grass
And the fate of the maiden who topes,
She lowered her standards by raising her glass,
Her courage, her eyes and his hopes.
She sipped it, she drank it, she drained it, she did
And quietly he filled it again
And he said as he secretly carved one more notch
On the butt of his gold-handled cane.

"Have some Madeira, m'Dear!
I've got a small cask of it here
And once it's been opened, you know it won't keep
Do finish it up, it will help you to sleep.
Have some Madeira, m'Dear!
It's really an excellent year.
Now if it were gin, you'd be wrong to say yes,
The evil gin does would be hard to assess
(Besides it's inclined to affect my prowess)
Have some Madeira, m'Dear!"

Then there flashed though her mind what her mother had said
With her antepenultimate breath:
"Oh my child, should you look at the wine which is red
Be prepared for a fate worse than death!"
She let go her glass with a shrill little cry.
Crash! Tinkle! It fell to the floor.
When he asked "what in Heaven?" she made no reply,
Up her mind, a dash for the door.

"Have some Madeira, m'Dear!"
Rang out down the hall, loud and clear,
A tremulous cry that was filled with despair
As she paused to take breath in the full midnight air.
"Have some Madeira, m'Dear!"
The words seemed to ring in her ear
Until the next morning, she woke up in bed
With a smile on her lips, an ache in her head
And a beard in her earhole that tickled and said:
"Have some Madeira, m'Dear!"

I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

And I don't believe in the existence of angels
But looking at you I wonder if that's true
But if I did I would summon them together
And ask them to watch over you
To each burn a candle for you
To make bright and clear your path
And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love
And guide you into my arms

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

And I believe in Love
And I know that you do too
And I believe in some kind of path
That we can walk down, me and you
So keep your candle burning
And make her journey bright and pure
That she will keep returning
Always and evermore

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

Let's recount our history,
our tale of boom and bust.
We could talk a good fight on our day
but when we got a hand to play we bit the dust.
Now in our threadbare suits we do our duty,
still sold on the pursuit of a common cause.

Now let us call to memory such witness as we dare.
We built our bridges, burned them down as well,
maybe all we have to tell is off the square.
We tried our instant remedies – they didn't clear the air.
Who could foresee how it was bound to end,
in a break or in a bend?
We intended well enough...
Oh, but the clock was always counting,
the envelope was sealed
and as the pressure's mounting
still precious little is revealed.

Still, let us speak of comradeship, of how we stood as one,
shoulder to shoulder through the thick and thin
while the roof was caving in;
although everything begins in good faith,
for all our sins we'll all end up being skinned
and now there's nowhere left to run to, there's nowhere left to hide,
we're strapped in and we're gunning for the roller-coaster ride.

If we're living our lives as though God's at our shoulders,
if we're giving of our best, by an effort of will,
then we'll be up for the test,
we'll never know when we're over the hill.

Here comes then bit where we decide no passengers come on this ride –
civilians, the broken-hearted, need not apply.
I count to a thousand and ten, I keep my eyes tight shut and then
unsteadily count the numbers back down again.

Head on into the wind, on a heavenly mission,
try to play with the spin while we burn in our hearts;
although we know we'll never win we're still learning our lessons in the dark.

There's no choice here to make, there's no easier decision
than to stand up, stand straight and to give it a try
and there's no time for hesitation as the stations of our lives are passing by.
Heads up and face front as brother to brother,
time to come to the call if we're true to how we were
because at last and after all we've given each other our words.
If we live out our lives as though God's sat at our shoulders,
if we give of our best and then give some more still,
press on, with no pause for breath,
then we'll see each other over the hill.

Now if we speak of distances we're only covering old ground:
what's done is done and if we have become of worth at all
we'll hope to see things in the round.
Let's close the book on history and keep it safe and sound.
While we've been moving forward to our goals
we have done as we have told,
so the story's closed behind us
and the countdown comes in backwards,
that much was always clear,
so when it reaches zero our heroes disappear.

These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos

As soon as I love her, It's been too long
Talks of future with you caves me in
swallow my sugar kiss and eat it alone
Hearts get out and smash any dreams of love

These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos, dominos

Three words we shared said to early on
Stuck with forever to the point of tears
Swimming with the fear where we slowly drown
Ending at never hauting melody

As soon as I love her, it's been too long
And I really loved breaking your heart
These silver apples will shine on, I was wrong
The hottest love has the coldest end

These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos, dominos

[Instrumental Break:]

These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos, dominos

So it’s Halloween
And you feel like dancin’
And you feel like shinin’
And you feel like letting loose

Whatcha gonna be?
Babe, you better know
And you better plan
Better plan all day
Better plan all week
Better plan all month
Better plan all year...

You’re dressed up like a clown
Putting on your act
It’s the only time all year
You’ll ever admit that

I can see your eyes
I can see your brain
Baby, nothing’s changed

You’re still hiding in a mask
You take your fun seriously
No, don’t blow this year’s chance
Tomorrow your mold goes back on
After Halloween

You go to work today
You’ll go to work tomorrow
Shitfaced tonight
You’ll brag about it for months

Remember what I did
Remember what I was
Back on Halloween

But what’s in between?
Where are your ideas?
You sit around and dream
For next Halloween...

Why not every day?
Are you so afraid
What will people say?
After Halloween

Because your role is planned for you
There’s nothing you can do
But stop and think it through
But what will the boss say to you?
And what will your girlfriend say to you?

And the people out on the street they might glare at you
And whadya know, you’re pretty self-conscious too
So you run back and stuff yourselves in rigid business costumes
Only at night to score is your leather uniform exhumed

Why don’t you take your social regulations
And shove ‘em up your ass

I was eight years old and running with a dime in my hand
Into the bus stop to pick up a paper for my old man
I'd sit on his lap in that big old Buick and steer as we drove through town
He'd tousle my hair and say son take a good look around this is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown

In '65 tension was running high at my high school
There was a lot of fights between the black and white
There was nothing you could do
Two cars at a light on a Saturday night in the back seat there was a gun
Words were passed in a shotgun blast
Troubled times had come to my hometown
My hometown
My hometown
My hometown

Now Main Street's whitewashed windows and vacant stores
Seems like there ain't nobody wants to come down here no more
They're closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks
Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain't coming back to

Your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown

Last night me and Kate we laid in bed
talking about getting out
Packing up our bags maybe heading south
I'm thirty-five we got a boy of our own now
Last night I sat him up behind the wheel and said son take a good look around, this is your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown

That line always brings a tear to my eye

Baby sneezes
Mummy pleases
Daddy breezes in
So good on paper
So romantic
But so bewildering

(chorus)
I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's coming around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
there's more room in a broken heart

You pay the grocer
Fix the toaster
Kiss the host Good-bye
Then you break a window
burn the Souffle?
Scream the lullaby

I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's coming around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
there's more room in a broken heart

And I believe in love
But what else can I do
I'm so in love with you

I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It will be coming around again

If lust and hate is the candy,
if blood and love tastes so sweet,
then we give 'em what they want.

Hey, hey, give 'em what they want.
So their eyes are growing hazy 'cos they wanna turn it on,
so their minds are soft and lazy.
Well, hey, give 'em what they want.
If lust and hate is the candy,
if blood and love tastes so sweet,
then we give 'em what they want.
So their eyes are growing hazy 'cos they wanna turn it on,
so their minds are soft and lazy.
Well... who do you wanna blame?
Hey, hey, give 'em what they want.

If lust and hate is the candy,
if blood and love tastes so sweet,
then we give 'em what they want.
So their eyes are growing hazy 'cos they wanna turn it on,
so their minds are soft and lazy.
Well... who do you wanna blame?

Lyrics of Josh Martinez - Absence Of Torches :

i have grown into an old man and my whole clan

is fast asleep in the vast tracks of land that i keep, and i plan

to write my life out and then expand until all the candles are snuffed out,

and darkness stands the test of time.

in the best of my vestibule chats with god,

he had this odd way of showing the shame he felt

in the way that we knelt before the alters of plastic.

it's like we opened up a portal in our pagan acts

and sacrifices were performed.

when life's little vices have deformed

the world that we live in,

the price we payed is being delayed from seeing the pearly gates and givin',

and god's children are forbidden, and livin' in what used to be our garden,

and in our exit we're starting to subdue whoever we can take from,

and make some bunch of numb assholes,

most status points we're at the last hole

and tryin' to keep hope in this blackhole

with no rope to climb with. the vine is rotting right before my eyes,

by the divine we've been advised, so many times we've seen the signs,

that the strains placed on the inter-laced vines

is having an effect that we can never reverse in enough regret.

get your dirty laundry off the close line,

i've froze my mind in hindsight,

a picture might be worth a thousand words but

only one earth day is worth shit in every way we work the land

and hurt the hand that feeds us, and even jesus,

the son of god, leaves us. it's hard when to appease us

when as a species we have to have more,

and still the sore grows as our store of knowledge rose

from buildin' fires, to tires slow burnin' in the distance.

dancing in revolution meant that the establishment

was overturned and dissolved,

i'm singin' in the acid rain, pollution problem solved,

and great pain to the rainforest and everyone involved.

it's not gettin' any better, i know it's gettin' worse,

for every birth dispersed upon this earth brings

another mouth to feed, and strains the purse strings,

but first thing's first, we need to act and attack the route cause,

for all the flack and flaws and exported bear claws.

we humans as a race have no escape clause.

we must pause for thought 'cause we're stuck with what we got,

so let's make the best and the stronger that we address the problem,

the sooner the better. perfect flight, even admire it,

instead of setting fire to it's home in times of dire man,

get off your ass and do somethin'.

the sands expand in the land of prose, so witness the lowly retreat back,

growin' used to defeat. in fact, the heat acts

as a catalyst for clingin' to hope,

'cause hopefully channels upstream will open up.

i just want my children's stream water to be clean,

as these extremes mark nature's way. we've gone too far.

instead of wise ways, we've built highways,

we can't go back so let's go sideways, at least in my days,

we had hopes and dreams to fulfill.

and now the streams are floatin' with landfill.

the earth can't cope, it's a candle in the wind

hopin' to cling to anything as the wax drips on tax slips.

we slash and burn to ash piles of trash including plastic.

now unless something drastic occurs, the wick'll flicker out

and then we'll learn about the cost of apathy,

and i know some who probably laugh at me, but fuck it.

every second wasted means tap water tasted must be boiled,

and every piston oiled means one more river soiled and forever dead.

well note this moment and remember it, 'cause each day the heat rise,

another member of our planet dies.

and it's a 'long december' up in the sky rise,

and we're runnin' out of space and

'maybe this year will be better than the last.'

but not likely, we still got nike and holes in the ozone

and it's like the human chromosome is somehow proned to hate.

even though our fate is intertwined with the debate,

on what is our evil is actually inhuman incarnate,

for when we explore the villages in the wilderness,

we're buildin' on the premisice that promises

are made to be displayed as we invade the last of the human sanctuaries.

renegade tribes feelin' the push for progress.

computer wavelength measures everything from wet levels of stress

to compression-chambered heat,

and how did our feet walk so far from the rock wall in k-mart?

livin' for freedom like braveheart, i for one crave a fresh start.

The banks of the river run through my hometown
As a boy, ran dirt roads, and I scraped my knees
Well they paved the roads eventually
With neon signs and car dealerships and diners

The soldiers fill the hotels on the weekends
I saw the pretty women as I walked through town

Well, I moved away soon as I turned sixteen
Figured I was old enough to go and work a job
Well I floated down main street, pools of car lights
overcame me, wishing I was still back home

The soldiers fill the hotels on the weekends
I saw the pretty women as I walked through town

Well, Jacksonville's a city with a hopeless streetlight
Seems like you're lucky if it ever change from red to green
I was born in an abundance of inherited sadness
And .50 cent picture frames bought at a five and dime

I ended up a soldier on the weekend
Looking for a vacancy I wasn't able to find
Somewhere the night sky hangs like a blanket
Shoot it with my cap gun just to make it
Seem like stars

Fat man lookin' in a blade of steel
Thin man lookin' at his last meal
Hollow man lookin' in a cottonfield
For dignity

Wise man lookin' in a blade of grass
Young man lookin' in the shadows that pass
Poor man lookin' through painted glass
For dignity

Somebody got murdered on New Year's Eve
Somebody said dignity was the first to leave
I went into the city, went into the town
Went into the land of the midnight sun

Searchin' high, searchin' low
Searchin' everywhere I know
Askin' the cops wherever I go
Have you seen dignity?

Blind man breakin' out of a trance
Puts both his hands in the pockets of chance
Hopin' to find one circumstance
Of dignity

I went to the wedding of Mary-lou
She said ñI don't want nobody see me talkin' to youî
Said she could get killed if she told me what she knew
About dignity

I went down where the vultures feed
I would've got deeper, but there wasn't any need
Heard the tongues of angels and the tongues of men
Wasn't any difference to me

Chilly wind sharp as a razor blade
House on fire, debts unpaid
Gonna stand at the window, gonna ask the maid
Have you seen dignity?

Drinkin' man listens to the voice he hears
In a crowded room full of covered up mirrors
Lookin' into the lost forgotten years
For dignity

Met Prince Phillip at the home of the blues
Said he'd give me information if his name wasn't used
He wanted money up front, said he was abused
By dignity

Footprints runnin' cross the silver sand
Steps goin' down into tattoo land
I met the sons of darkness and the sons of light
In the bordertowns of despair

Got no place to fade, got no coat
I'm on the rollin' river in a jerkin' boat
Tryin' to read a note somebody wrote
About dignity

Sick man lookin' for the doctor's cure
Lookin' at his hands for the lines that were
And into every masterpiece of literature
for dignity

Englishman stranded in the blackheart wind
Combin' his hair back, his future looks thin
Bites the bullet and he looks within
For dignity

Someone showed me a picture and I just laughed
Dignity never been photographed
I went into the red, went into the black
Into the valley of dry bone dreams

So many roads, so much at stake
So many dead ends, I'm at the edge of the lake
Sometimes I wonder what it's gonna take
To find dignity

Breakin' my back just to know your name
Seventeen tracks and I've had it with this game
A breakin' my back just to know your name
But heaven ain't close in a place like this
Anything goes but don't blink you might miss
Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this
I said heaven ain't close in a place like this
Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight
Never thought I'd let a rumor ruin my moonlight

somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential
I've got potential

Ready Let's roll onto something new
Takin' its toll and I'm leaving without you
'Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this
I said heaven ain't close in a place like this
Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight
Never thought I'd let a rumor ruin my moonlight

somebody told me that
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential
I've got potential

Pace yourself for me
I said maybe baby please
But I just don't know now
When all I wanna do is try

[x3]
Somebody told me that
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential
I've got potential
A rushin', a rushin' around

Sometimes I fear

Sometimes I face

All through the night all I see are changing faces turning round

Here she comes

Shelly Brown

Shelly's not here

Shelly's gone to pay

And all we've got left

Empty boxes

Burnt out, faulty, scattered round

Here she comes

Shelly Brown

As I need you, you're my friend

Aunt, I need you, message sent

All in all it's meant to be

All in all it's you and me

All in all

I can see you in post-haste

Here she comes

Shelly Brown

Here she comes

As I need you, you're my friend

Aunt, I need you, message sent

All in all it's meant to be

All in all it's you and me

All in all

Le vent souffle en Arizona
Un état d’Amériques dans lequel Harry Zona
Cow-boy dingue du bang bang du flingue
De l’arme, du cheval et de quoi faire la bringue
Poursuivi par Smith & Wesson
Colt, Derringer, Winchester & Remington
Oncle Sam me dupe

Just a short note
You'll find the key inside
There's no one home tonight
But come in anyway
The shallow-ow sea
Calm, but not asleep
You're gonna wade into the dee-yay-ayp
Tomorrow's years away

And now I-I know
Why darkness makes me smile
The night will have it's child
And the wind will wind away
The wind will wind away-yay-ay

Until you're telling your friends we-ee died
Laughing still (laughing still)
But the vessel that you-ou fill
Will be your own

Wade into the deep
How much can you see, yay-ay
Before we're all the same

Those words I wrote
I see my errors now
There's too much when and how
And you blow it anyway

The shallow-ow sea
Calm, but not asleep
You're goin' to wade into the dee-yay-ayp
Tomorrow's years away
Every day, every day, every day

And now I know
Why darkness makes me smile
The night will have it's child
And we'll all just blow away
Just watch us blow away-yay-ay
Until you're telling your friends we-ee died
Laughing still

But the vessel that you-ou fill
Will be your ow-ow-wo-own
Wade into the deep
How much can you see-yay
Before we're all the sa-ame
Show me

I search for love before
For a love that I thought I couldn't find
I searched day in and day out
For a love that was mine all mine

I played around with love before
I was silly and you know that I played the fool
But then you came and took my life and you changed it
Cause I know what I want and where it's at Yeah

I found lovin'
Since I found you
I'm in love with you
I found lovin'
Since I found you
I'm in love with you
I found lovin'

My sun rises on your face
When I see that certain glow
But picture that's so bright
You're my delight
And that's why I love you so

I've played around with love before
I was silly and you know that I played the fool
But then you came and took my life and you changed it
Cause I know what I want and where it's at, with you

I found lovin'
Since I found you
I'm in love with you babe
I found lovin'
Since I found you
I'm in love with with you
I found lovin'

I saw her, yea I saw her
With her black tongue tied round the roses

A fist pounding on a vending machine
Toy diamond ring stuck on her finger
With a noose she can hang from the sun
And put it out with her dark sunglasses
Walking crooked down the beach
She spits on the sand
Where their bones are bleaching

And I know I'm gonna steal her life
She doesn't even know what's wrong
And I know I'm gonna make her die
Take her where her soul belongs
And I know I'm gonna steal her life
Nothing that I wouldn't try

Hey, my cyanide girl
Hey, my cyanide girl
My my cyanide girl
Hey, my cyanide girl

I saw her, yea I saw her
With her hands tied back
Rags a' burnin'
Calling out from a landfilled life
Scrawlin' her name upon the ceiling
Throw a coin in a fountain of dust
White noise, her ears are ringing
Got a ticket for my midnight hanging
Throw a bullet from a freight train leaving

And I know I'm gonna steal her life
She doesn't even know what's wrong
And I know I'm gonna make her die
Take her where her soul belongs
And I know I'm gonna steal her life
Nothing that I wouldn't try

Hey, my cyanide girl
Hey, my cyanide girl
My my cyanide girl
Hey, my cyanide girl

Hey, my cyanide girl
Hey, my cyanide girl
My my cyanide girl
Hey, my cyanide girl

Hey, my cyanide girl
Hey, my cyanide girl
My my cyanide girl
Hey, my cyanide girl

Nobody ever had a dream round here,
but I don't really mind and/that it's starting to get to me
Nobody ever pulls the seams round here,
but I don't really mind and/that it's starting to get to me

I've got this energy beneath my feet
like something underground's gonna come up and carry me,
I've got this sentimental heart that beats
but I don't really mind (and) it's starting to get to me

Now.."Why do you waste my time?"
Is the answer to the question on your mind
And I'm sick of all my judges
so scared of what they'll find
But I know that I can make it
As long as somebody takes me home,
every now and then...

Oh, have you ever seen the lights?
Have you ever seen the lights?

I took the shuttle on a shock-wave ride,
where the people on the pen pull the trigger for accolade
I took a bullet, and I looked inside
Running through my veins
An American masquerade

I still remember Grandma Dixie's wake,
I never really known anybody to die before
Red white and blue upon a birthday cake,
My brother, he was born on the fourth of the July...and that's all

"So why do you waste my time?"
Is the answer to the question on your mind
And I'm sick of all my judges,
so scared of letting me shine
But I know that I can make it,
as long as somebody takes me home...

every now and then
every now and then

(You know) I see London, I see Sam's Town
holds my hand and let's my hair down
Rolls that world right off my shoulder
I see London, I see Sam's Town now
I see Sam's Town now.

OOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh!

AaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

(My approximation. The lyricist may take issue with the amount of 'o's and 'a's I have used.)

Is there any hope for us, or are the rumors true?
Are we just the mulch and kindling that accrues?
Can we recover from this?

I've seen expressions in department stores.
I've smelled regression wafting up from these shores.
This is not a celebration of slipping through some crack.
This is sloth and devastation and we're the resulting trash.

Count all your fingers tonight.
And believe what you find!
(I'm sick of making small talk in this rotting chowline.)

Can we recover?
We cover our heads and run for the gutter!

Toby Keith's horses and Toby Keith's men
finally put us all in our place.
It's a wonderful hug when there's so much MORE to love,
when there's steaks and hearts jammed in your face.

This is the fucking slop line and we're scratching with our hooves.
How much of evolution must we finally disprove?

Count all your fingers tonight.
I can't believe what we find.
Can we recover?
We cover our heads and we run for the gutter!

Dear Mother,
I'm sorry. There was nowhere left to run.
We fought and we fought until our bullets ran out,
and they took us one by one.
Dear Mother,
Im sorry. We had just barely begun.
This will be the last letter from your only son.
Yeah I do not believe!
Recover as one...

'Twas in another lifetime, one of toil and blood
When blackness was a virtue and the road was full of mud
I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

And if I pass this way again, you can rest assured
I'll always do my best for her, on that I give my word
In a world of steel-eyed death and men who are fighting to be warm
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

Not a word was spoke between us, there was little risk involved Nothing up to that point had even been resolved
Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warm
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

I was burned out from exhaustion, buried in the hail
Poisoned in the bushes an' blown out on the trail
Hunted like a crocodile ravaged in the corn.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair
She walked up to me so gracefully, and took my crown of thorns
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

Now the bonds are broken, but they can be re-tied
One more journey to the woods, the holes where spirits hide,
It's a never-ending battle, for a piece that's always torn,
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

Well the deputy walks on hard nails and the preacher rides a mount
But nothing really matters much, it's doom alone that counts
And the one-eyed undertaker, he blows a feudal horn
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

I've heard newborn babies cry like a mournin' dove
And old men with broken teeth stranded without love
Do I understand your question, man, "Is it hopeless and forlorn?"
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

Now there’s a wall between us, something there's been lost
I took too much for granted, I got my signals crossed
Just to think it all began on an uneventful morn,
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

In a little hilltop village, they gambled for my clothes
I bargained for salvation an' she gave me a lethal dose
I offered up my innocence and got repaid with scorn
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

Well, I'm livin' in a foreign country but I'm bound to cross the line
Beauty walks a razor's edge, someday I'll make it mine
If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya, shelter from the storm."

Seen the arrow on the doorpost
Saying, "This land is condemned
All the way from New Orleans
To Jerusalem."
I travelled through East Texas
Where many martyrs fell
And I know no one can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell

Well, I heard that hoot owl singing
As they were taking down the tents
The stars above the barren trees
Were his only audience
Them charcoal gypsy maidens
Can strut their feathers well
But nobody can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell

See them big plantations burning
Hear the cracking of the whips
Smell that sweet magnolia blooming
See the ghosts of slavery ships
I can hear them tribes a-moaning
Hear the undertaker's bells
Nobody can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell

There's a woman by the river
With some fine young handsome man
He's dressed up like a squire
Bootlegged whiskey in his hand
There's a chain gang on the highway
I can hear them rebels yell
And I know no one can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell

Well, God is in heaven
And we all want what's his
But power and greed and corruptible seed
Seem to be all that there is
I'm gazing out the window
Of the St. James Hotel
And I know no one can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell
