What are you playing at the moment?

Downloaded the EuroTruck simulator demo yesterday. First on the steam deck and then on my PC and it was surprisingly fun.

Tiny Tina's Wonderland. I liked the Borderlands games and this is more of the same, obviously. In fact the whole game is very samey but I quite like that. I can just play it without thinking.

Been playing Dredge, Desktop Dungeons Rewind (which is free if you own the original) and Shardpunk Verminfall. All good.

Really enjoyed Dredge until I'd fully upgraded my boat and then I kind of lost interest. It rose a bit after I'd unlocked the dynamite but not enough to keep going back to it.

Yeah I lost interest after a bit. I will go back at some point but 🤷

Been waiting for months for both Redfall and The Last of Us releases on PC only to find that the reviews have panned them
I saw the reviews for Redfall but didn't read them, is it just "it's broken" or is it also that it's a bad game? That Jedi one got similar and Last of Us is just buggy. Tbh I don't expect anything from the big games for at least 6 months after they release.

Redfall : I think disappointing bordering on bad is the theme ie repetitive , lacking depth and apparantly single player a very shallow experience.
Yes you are right there’s been a number of games where either patches or a DLC has turned things around .

I'm still stuck on Cyberpunk 2077, I actually think it's the greatest game ever. I've played as a Corpo, a bit as a Nomad mainly for the Aldecados questline which is brilliant. I'm currently doing every side mission and gig as a Streetkid, and this time I'll do the hookup quests  I got Elden Ring but it hasn't grabbed me yet, its unremitting solitude and darkness isn't what I need just now (though the world looks beautiful) and of course the bosses are insanely hard to beat .. lack of changeable difficulty level is annoying. I played a demo of a puzzle game called Backbeat, which I loved, but the full version is £25 which is still a bit much for a download only game. I'd pay it for a DVD version but that doesn't exist, so I'll wait a while for the d/l to drop in price a bit.

Been playing Jedi Survivor on PC, borrowed my mates gfx card as my integrated graphics (Ryzen 5600G) could play it but it looked rubbish.

Now it's all shiny and a massive improvement over the last game in terms of gameplay/graphics, however the performance issues widley reported are real and it has been crashing a fair bit, I expect that to be fixed soon with a patch or 9

So I'd give it an 8.5/10 for the game and a 5/10 for the performance.

On PS5 though it's meant to run well.

TLoU is absolutely fine. I mean, it needs a beast of a pc to run on high but I ran it on medium on my laptop and it was absolutely fine. What's the criticism of?

Glitches , crashes , patches . I'm glad to hear you can run it as I really want to play it. Others have said to leave it for a few months.

I played it through on Hard and then Survivor (FUHHHH-LEXXX!) and the only issue I came across was a missing prompt that I dealt with by finding a solution online. Didn't crash once. I guess that it would be super frustrating if it had, after waiting so long for it to come out on PC.

it's better on the harder difficulty settings, it's got much more of that desperate scrabbling around in the ruins of civilization for a half brick to stove someone's head thing than on easier levels.

Anyhoo.

Zelda. The new Zelda. Me and the kid got up early to play before she went to school. It's very good. Got that 'if Skyrim and Studio Ghibli had a baby' thing that BOTW had.

Yeah definitely agree with the difficulty thing. Survivor etc fit the game very well.

I am playing the new Zelda, which has a place in my heart after playing Link to the Past when it first came out all those years ago. I can imagine that it must be awesome playing it with your kid. I'm also playing Xenoblade Chronicles and finding that I like that more than Zelda. I might play BotW first and see if I like it more after that.

Is it just BOTW again? Cos I kind of liked that, but dunno if I can do it again.
It’s like a slicker BOTW with a lot more flexibility, for example it was a bit of a faff getting from one side of cliffs to the other, so I made a flying machine out of a turbine and a floating platform and flew over it, or I accidentally dropped a part over a cliff, so I had to inch along the mine cart tracks to get to a floating island. I haven’t got out of the initial area, because I am apparently a ‘nooooooooooooob!!!!’

Decided to go back to Destiny for a little bit again, was playing A LOT of BF2042 but after hitting S01 and 100 on the GP kinda lost interest...no doubt will be back once they reveal season 5 and new content though!

Got a few games on the go at the moment.

Football Manager 22:

Got a journeyman game going that's seen me go from Welling to Utrecht, via Southend. Went to Utrecht after leading Southend from Conference to League one. Saved them from Relegation and then finished 2nd the last two seasons. Struggling this season in 8th, but could get through the Champions League group stage. Was turned down by Villarreal at the bottom of La Liga. Won the cup with Utrecht too.

Tomb Raider:

Playing this on my steam deck after getting it for free a long time ago. Shame I waited so long it's great - obviously 2013, but still looks good and moves at a nice pace. I downloaded GE proton to my steam deck to get it running at 60fps consistently, and it wiped my save. II'mworking back through it which shows how much I like it as usually I can't be assed with that.

Shadow of War:

I've actually ditched this. I really loved Shadow of Mordor, but as I went further into War it felt more like I was grinding and I just don't have time for that tbh. Looked up reviews and it doesn't get better so I've ditched it off.

Euro Truck Simulator:

Bought the whole DCL and main game for £20. Good little time sink with some management stuff in the background. Runs well on Deck and PC. I never thought I'd enjoy these games but I'm currently driving through Austria and it's very fun.

Rustler:

Basically a medieval version of GTA1 and 2. I grabbed it for a fiver today and initial demo play convinced me. Think it'll be a good play.

Downloaded Star Trek Resurgence the other day.

Now I'm a Trek nerd, so I'm naturally really enjoying it at the minute, but it is a genuinely good game (and for ST, that's saying something).
My issue is that its very slow so far. Its made by the same people who made Live is Strange (which I also like), so there's a lot of relationship building at the start, which is obviously needed but it does mean the plot is a bit 'stop/start' at times, and (thus far) it's a bit reptative - I've scanned the same shuttle craft three times, for example.

Finished Tomb Raider. That was a decent, linear, pick up and play game. Perfect on the steam deck. I didn't really play the old ones properly as I was young and my favourite bit was running around her house doing stunts. I'll probably get the next one's in that series when it's on the steam sale.
