Walthamstow Stoke Newington Chitter Chatter

Mr Retro

Beware hedgehogs
Doesn't seem to be any chat for these areas so here is one. We just moved to Walthamstow and loving it so far. Not seeing the best of it during the bad weather but really looking forward to the spring for walks and cycling around the forest and the reservoir and further.

First impression: good boozers, loads of caffs, nice people, brilliant market

Anybody here or is it just me?

There is a Hackney Chitter Chatter thread that still gets posts occasionally. I go on the marshes a lot as Clapton is on the edge of them. Do go up to the Stow quite a lot as some mates live near the cemetery there. Have walked it over the marshes too which is a lovely walk in the summer:cool:

I don't like that pub. The landlady is fucking bizarre and the prices too high. The Rose and Crown on Hoe St is a cracking pub in every single way. But if you must drink in the village area, the Castle is imo the best pub. The singsongs in there are hilarious. All village pubs are a bit pretentious though.

We started a monthly dub night at the Victoria on Hoe Street, General Echo, the next one is March 16th. Free in and cheap drinks.

I haven't been in The Nags Head or the Ros and Crown yet, must try them soon. We drink mostly in The Flower Pot on a wood Street. I really like it in there.

Wasn't sure who the landlady was tbh , prices were normal for London, my mate loves the place so wanted to go there.

Nags was my local ...during the 90's..used to be a lock up with an alcoholic landlord called Ron ....then he left ...or died ...not too sure ... Then moved on to the village

Agreed - I don't like that pub either. There are too many signs outlining rules - mostly related to children. The garden probably has about 20 such signs.

On a nice evening last summer I was having a pint and a pizza with my friend and my 9 year old daughter - who was sitting down and chatting with us in a manner which could not possibly have been irritating anyone. Nevertheless the landlady felt the need to come over to us at 5 to 8 to very rudely tell us that we would have to leave within 5 minutes - despite the fact that we'd only just been given our pizzas . So I boycott it now....

Rose and Crown is great.

I'm liking the pub in the old cinema too - although it has a ridiculous name - Mirth, Marvel and Maud - but it's a cracking setting and lovely beer, if somewhat expensive.

It's OK, the decor is the best bit. The Victoria, the pub above there that you go upstairs to, is a great place on a Friday night. Also the Wild Card Brewery and the Gin Palace on the Shernhall estate are worth a look.
A lot of the pubs in the village have rules about kids, but Nags Head woman is so rude about it. And I think she sends her staff to rude lessons too. I never go there either any more.
