Used to be with the work programme and going back to Job Centre

In May 2016 when I was claiming Job seekers I was placed on the work programme. It was awful, I left after a few months and haven’t been on benefits since.

However, they still officially considered me on the work programme for two years up until May 2018 even though I wasn’t claiming anything. I didn’t go and see them or anything, I just got the occasional phone call which I ignored.

Anyway, I’m out of work again and I’m thinking about applying for universal credit now, I’m hoping I’ll be treated like a normal claimant. However, I’m worried that because I was previously on the work programme does that mean I’ll be placed straight on the work and health programme? Or treated worse than the average job seeker? I heard that job seekers who came straight from the work programme back to the Job centre were treated badly.

Thanks for any help.

I’m afraid I can’t offer any help at all on this kind of thing, but hopefully someone will be along in a moment to offer something useful.

You might find more folk around in the daytime. I suggest you bump the thread tomorrow with a quick post.

In the meantime, I’m going to tag in a mod to delete one of these threads you’ve made cos there’s no need for two, and also a couple of posters who may be able to help.

Best of luck.

thanks for the tag, but i'm increasingly out of date with benefits, and haven't really got to grips with universal credit

all i can suggest is claim and see what happens, and rope in the citizens advice / any other local alternative if there's any problems - turn2us may also have some useful links. and in many cases if they do try to refuse / cut / sanction, there is an appeal process and a process for emergency / hardship payments, but they don't tell you this.

Thanks, I will probably go ahead and see what happens. :)
