Theres a mood in US telly i think thats attempting to reflect the fact the country has got 10% unemployment, without actually, like, getting everyone down man - got to think of the sponsors. in a similar vein theres a thing called The Middle - a bit like Rosanne maybe, but less edgey. its pretty offensive in the way it tries to put a gloss on broke family life i feel. Theyll be casting george clooney as albert steptoe next

I caught about 5 minutes of the middle over the holidays, uninspired. got that tart from everybody wants to shoot raymond, and the janitor from scrubs.

Raising Hope is another new US comedy featuring a struggling working-class family. I've only seen a couple of episodes but it isn't bad, something helped enormously by the casting of Martha Plimpton as the main character's mum.

Has anyone seen any of the second series? I quite enjoyed the first, but have missed all of the newest one, and my downloading site has gone so can't watch it.
