Unusual and GOOD cover versions

Last edited:
just stumbled on this nice disco version of Otis:

eta: apparently the Otis version is a cover...by quite a few years. First recorded in 1932! Wow

I love that - it's from a compilation album I see, the DJ/artist is Sultan Shakes.
Heard it played out on the weekend, sounded good on a system.

I checked the rest of the comp but it's not really me.
Couldnt see a lot of other tunes by Sultan Shakes out there at all tbh.

I had a look at that too - not really me either :D
I can't see very much about him on the web, was wondering if he was a UK artist.

Edit to add, he's on FB but not posted anything since 2019.

Checking out a bit of Biily Preston from wathcing the Beatles doc - this is from 1969 and the album that came out on the Beatles Apple label (album also feat George Harrison Ginger Baker Keith Richards and Eric Clapton)
This is an interesting take on Hey Joe:

also on that album title track That's The Way God Planned It seems to be a play on Let It Be

What when the cover version is better and more well known than the Dr Hook original?
