Cover versions that are better than original but also better than subsequent cover versions

Billy Bragg 'To have and to have not'.. Brilliant

Tim Timbomb (Rancid) Punky singalong version.. very satisfying..

Lars Friderickson (Rancid) very good version but not fond of the lyric change..

Not quite in the spirit of the Thread, but I'm hoping someone might post up a third cover in each instance?

And I prefer the covers in both cases.

This one's more difficult as the original is an all-time classic:

There are probably a million different cover versions, but this one has its own identity and distorted sound:

I've put this on one of the other cover threads a while back but I'm putting it here because it fills the criteria of the title post perfectly.
I really can't imagine anyone else out doing FIR's version of the Papa Roach classic....the 2 versions are like chalk and cheese....Papa Roach conveys the angst driven side of suicidal thoughts, the wanting to smash things up and shout at the world.
Ronnie's version conveys the inner reflection of suicidal thoughts, and the reaching out for someone to help him ..... This version makes me want to cry, it's so hauntingly beautiful.

This is imo the best version, and I was a teddy girl most of my teens :D

C'mon everybody, in case it doesn't show
