Unusual and GOOD cover versions

Let's face it the original was fucking shite so its hard to see how there could be an even half decent cover

It isn't great but I have to add this because it's Todd Hoffman, a useless fuck from a TV series I watch (Gold Rush). I quite like it, considering.

This dance show by la la la human steps has some great minimalism arrangements of velvet underground songs by David Lang from bang on a can - this one is waiting for my man, but the rest of the music is great too. The dancing is also spectacular. Jump forward to 1.33, it's just credits until then...

They have the whole film on ubu, which is defo worth watching - here: UbuWeb Dance - La La La Human Steps: Amelia (2002)

i like The Frank & Walters dewhimsied version of Cemetry Gates from the Queen Is Dead tribute album. Everything else on it apart from the Boo Radleys reeked.

Oh give over. I like you, I just didn't like the song you posted. Slating each other's music taste is pretty much all the music forum is for.

I like you too. I guess you're right regards slating each others taste. It's just not my bag, I just like it when anyone gets joy out of anything, I'm no arbiter of quality or cool in any way. I wouldn't want to criticise someone's favourite art if they loved it, who am I to say?!

But yep, it's Urban. I should just back off (and turn up the volume on my Jivebunny megamix.) ;)

PJ Proby did some peculiar covers for a laugh at one point incl Garbageman, and Love Will Tear Us Apart, which sounds a bit Bowie.

The Who - Young Man Blues (original by mose allison)
the live version from "live at leeds" is pretty well known - but i only just found out that the who did a studio version back in 1968 - and its pretty fucking cool.

An antidote to some of the shite that's appeared on the last couple of pages:

Not really unusual as this was clearly written as a Gospel pastiche in the first place. But still very much good.

Pure Hell - The Boots Are Made For Walking. These rascals popped up during a browse through stuff for the 1978 album thread. I'd never heard of them before

It's like Nico reborn as someone who thinks she's Nico but really, really really fucking ain't.
Nico's image was a lot better than her singing , Marble Image is about the only album of hers that I can stomach and possibly the version of The End that she did live.

"This track is so good, I paid $20 to get this on vinyl and i don't even have a recordplayer."

Does anyone here remember Vera Lynn?

The Byrds do - I'd say their version of "We'll meet again" is both unusual and good.
