What I think makes a great cover is when you can put your own twist on it, as these guys did. Here's the original by Minor Threat. Sound nothing alike, do they? But equally as good.

 
Esther Phillips is one of may favourite singers, I always felt she should have been more famous. Love this cover of hers:

 
Normally, any art is by it's very nature subjectively appreciated. I've had this one rigorously scientifically tested though, and the results are definitive: there is nothing more disgusting on this thread.
