Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)

M1/M4
If I need to go to LHR in the short run I will just fork out the charge, I've had to pay the Birmingham one a couple of times but in the medium term I suspect I will replace my car as soon as reasonably practical.
I'm neither pro nor anti ULEZ living outside London as I do but I do view them as a sort of necessary evil that is bound to spread to ever more cities.

similar to my feeling on the issue but the London one is to cover transport of London debts from keeping the buses running during Covid they could offer an expanded country wide scrappage scheme to remove older polluting car from the road

rather than leave a lot of people with no option but to try to sell and buy a car during an economic crisis

my understanding is ULEZ is one charge per day, so surely you'd just get billed for going to the airport, any additional journey the same day would not get charged extra?
Fly out of terminal 5, fly back into terminal 3. You’re being charged for your car being moved from T5 to T3 which is presumably being done by the valet parking people (perhaps 24 hrs in advance of your arrival time particularly if you’re arriving very early?)

Fly out of T5 and back to T5 they still have to bring it back to the terminal??

alternatives include Railair coach from Reading Station (which has been around a long time), and there's a new railair coach from Watford Junction - both of these start fairly early and finish fairly late.

more here.
I've never actually flown from Heathrow it's always been a case of me going there to drop someone off or pick someone up.
I will just stump up £12.50, as a one off charge it's nothing. The last time I went LHR it cost me about £10 to park. For me it is every once in a while but I can understand how someone faced with paying it everyday would get wound up about it.

You can park for free at the long stay car park for 2 hrs I think and get the bus to the terminal if dropping / picking up

The post I’m referring to mentioned a change of terminal. Doesn’t effect me as my car is ulez compliant and I’d get the coach anyway

Well yeah, but why would a change of terminal be any different for valet parkers than the same terminal?

And yes, I go by Addison Lee to Heathrow and Uber back to my home.

And would never use valet parking, have done in the past and it came back less 1/2 a tank of fuel, so if I do have to drive will use the car parks, preferably the short stay ones.

Fuck knows they’re probably pocketing the difference

The only time I have used valet parking was gor a cruise from Southampton. I made a note of the mileage when I left it and checked it when I got back. It had covered 0.4 miles. It was a big lot but they must have moved it more than once to get that figure.

I've got a mate who works at one of these valet parking schemes just outside Manchester Airport . Bent as fuck

my first car got written off around heathrow cargo terminal (the horseshoe) when a young lad smashed into the side of it driving a 4.2 ltr lexus got.out of the car to see a 17 year old driving it for a valet company on a provisional license

half of them are bent as fuck
they paid for the car oddly enough

It's all getting quite frantic on the local Facebook groups. I'm a couple of miles outside the revised boundary and my car is compliant anyway but I'm finding it amusing reading all the questions and comments. It seems clear enough to me looking at the TfL map where the boundaries are but there are still questions like 'I haven't seen a camera on such and such road, can I drive down it with out paying the charge?" This is usually followed by abuse aimed at the Mayor of London, 'it's only a money making scam', 'it's the start of us all being banned from going anywhere!', 'the scrappage scheme won't be enough for me to replace my diesel SUV with a new one', and on, and on and on....

the mayor stuff is annoying as I've had to have the same arguement with more than one fuckwit

bloody khan and his ulez

err it was grant Sharpe who said he not fund London transport during Covid unless he could get his money back and his proposal was increasing the area of the Boris Johnson existing Ulez zone

"bloody khannn!!"

I for one can’t think of a single reason why an awful lot of the fuckwits don’t like Khan :hmm:

Latest from my FB groups - It's going to cause more accidents as people will panic when they see the ULEZ signs and try to do a u-turn before entering the zone and other drivers will hit them.

It’s actually rather funny to see just how desperate these idiots are to find reasons to fight against it.

Reminds me of arguments about how 20mph speed limits are unsafe because of something to do with cars' gear ratios and it's too difficult to drive at such a speed, or something.
"The thing I spent thousands of pounds on doesn't do the main thing I bought it for very well"

My car's top speed of 150mph is a safety feature because it allows me to accelerate out of danger quickly if I am already going at 100mph.

The little non-Ulez corridor which stretches in from the West just north of Heathrow, what's that in aid of?

It may be for the same reason as the corridor at the bottom (heading up to Purley). I was told the reason for the Purley corridor was because there was no where for larger vehicles to turn around safely other than at the roundabout outside the Purley Cross Tescos.
