Ugly Cars

Oh I think it's wonderful as well ... it's just not very pretty!

I'd dispute that it's a bigger beast than the Lancia Delta S4, though, or for that matter the Audi Quattro S1, both of which are also pretty ugly!

Well irts ranking as a bigger beast imho is because it comes in such a small package, Like who the feck ever thought about putting that many horses into a mini metro!!!!

This one, especially the rear view - far too american in style for us Brits.

I seem to be one of the few people who actually likes the Scorpio's looks.
I can remember when it came out and my managing director got one, we were all laughing behind his back because it seemed so ugly. However I will warrant you, its looks have become more acceptable over time, as is the case with the Sierra and also the early Mondeo.

Sad, ugly, cross-eyed Aero 8 is sad, ugly and cross-eyed. It looks like it's about to burst into tears

LOL Yeah, with the front intake too it's a real sad face at the front there. Thing is though, I could imagine painting a few fake tears below the headlights and making a joke out of it, but I doubt Morgan would ever forgive me if I had one and did that to it :).

I can't believe that anyone thought that monstrosity was a good idea. I've driven some pretty grim cars in my time but nothing woud persuade me behind the wheel of that butt ugly vehicle.
ugly they are but behind the wheel is a remarkably comfortable place to be... won car of the year you know... they do look like an old fashioned roll top desk however ...

Austin Rover's marketing people, and Williams did the design work. They'd have been better off basing it on the Maestro, as IIRC the team realised at the time: the 6R4 was always hampered by being so small, and therefore cramped inside, and its short wheelbase made it very twitchy. That's one thing that makes it so spectacular to watch now: the driver really has to work to stay on top of it!

Yes I have said before that that particular Fiat is the ugliest car ever produced. However there are several contenders for the title among the new 'chunky' style cars especially a couple of Chrysler models.

There is excuse for the Fiat in that it holds as many passengers as small bus with clever seating arrangements.

The Multipla just had "standard" seats, except for having one extra fold down seat in the middle of the front two, giving 6 seats including the driver.

Just one more than any normal car, in fact. And less than most other "people carriers" manage.

My old Fiat Panorama 900E would fit two more than that, and while not exactly a beauty, it wasn't as ugly as the Multipla!

Giles..

The Taurus and Mondeo throughout the 20th century at least had nothing to do with one another whatsoever, aside from being Fords.

I can remember Ford pushing the boundaries of uglyness, first their jellymould Sierra took a bit of getting used to and at first just seemed ugly, then their american influenced Granada I think it was .. also took a bit of getting used to.
Shat it you slaaag, put your trousers on, you're nicked etc

contour mercury mondeo taurus were all the same cars like the orion and escort sierra were... lots of common parts... etc... Ford don't ever make a new car really... they recycle old cars and put new door handles on them... that's why they look futuristic for about 6 months and then looked dated as ras...

Giles..
yeah but without the multipla there'd never have been modern people carriers... before that there was the van like espace and that was it...

Definitely agree with the Pontiac Aztec and the Rodious.

My vote goes to Audi/BMW/Porche 4x4's. All hideous piles of shite.

I've always felt sorry for the Multipla. It's not a bad car.

No, not even slightly. The Countour and Mistake (er, Mystique) were the cars based on the Mondeo, but even then there's no part interchangeability. They didn't even have the same engines as the Mondeos, and that's something that's usually common in a carmaker's lineup.

As for the Multipla, it's a well-designed car but not innovative per se. It had all been done before elsewhere. Unless you mean this Multipla:

The original Chrysler Magic Wagons were based on cars. The Scenic also set the modern standard well before the Multipla came out. The number of MPVs based on cars well outnumbers the ones built on truck platforms.

Come on, Range Rovers are gross, as are all people who drive in them! Especially the Sport version!

I like the Chrysler PT, I know I'm in a minority there
When I was slagging off the Chryslers, I was referring to the small chunky latest model. I have always liked the PT, it has a certain Art Deco pre-war feel about it reminiscent of the Chrysler Airflow which was a classic.
