What's going on? Seems all of a sudden it's impossible to get a cab from any of the apps. The past couple of weeks it's just been constant cancellations before you get a cab and prices all over the place. Problems seem to have hit all the platforms at once and short and long journeys are all screwed. I've not seen it reported anywhere but googling brings up a few people on twitter/reddit and it seems to be affecting everyone I know.
Is this some kind of fight back from the drivers - I've seen a post encouraging drivers to refuse to accept jobs under 2x surge and if enough refuse it forces a surge in the area which kind of makes sense and would be really interesting from a worker movement point of view - but it was just one solitary post.
I've also heard that some drivers have not renewed their car lease and given up? Has the status change of the employees made some difference? Covid? Brexit? Uber just collapsing in general?
Just curious really - as a customer and someone who wants the drivers to get a good deal. Seems like a coop would be a good option for the drivers.
