Ty Crepe on Brixton Hill

I've eaten there 5 times - 3 times the crepes were the most delicious I've ever had. But when we went for dinner on Friday 14 January, we were told they were no longer serving savoury crepes after 6pm (what time did gaijingirl go on the 15th?!). I opted for the 'rib-eye' steak, which was nothing of the sort - instead I got 2 pieces of thin and cardboardy meat. I really like the place and love the crepes - I hope they bring them back to the dinner menu - otherwise I'll eat there only before 6 and an early Ritzy film.

We went there at about 8pm on the 15th... full menu was on (apart from the ciders obv).... how strange for you on the 14th..?!?

eta.. i say full menu - I don't remember there being any steaks? It could just be bad memory but I think it was just crepes...

Thanks for your reply - how weird. The main chef wasn't there the evening we went, so maybe that was the problem. I did wonder if those filling in for him didn't know what a rib-eye steak looks like and accidentally cooked the wrong piece of meat. They also forgot to cook the potatoes that came with the steak, and when I pointed this out, eventually sent me the ones that were supposed to come with the chicken dish . . . .

This post shouldn't put people off though - the crepes are REALLY good. Best to check they're being served when you plan to go!

So - a crepe restaurant where it is necessary to check first to see if they are serving crepes.

Don't think I'll bother.

No, it's really worth going to, despite my one under-par experience. The crepes are so good and the prices so fair that I've never used the discount vouchers I was given after my first meal there.

they haven't bothered putting a menu up on their site yet, despite leaving my enquiring comment up there for all to see

yeah.. do give them a chance - they're still quite new and finding their feet. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of cider and seasoning issue but the crepe was lovely and we had good service. Could be a great place with support.

I really want to go again. But has anyone been there when they actually had the cider?

what? They didn't have it when you went... I went on the basis of your post!!! Will go back and read it again.. did they not have it for you either?

It wasn't on the menu at all when I went but when I said "a friend of mine told me you had French cider".. he said that they did have it, but they'd run out and they were getting more in soon.... I had been drinking cider all day that day so chose Ty Crepe as part of a hangover avoidance ploy... in the event I resorted to wine... and accepted the inevitable morning after...

eta... ok... just been back and re-read your post... you drank all the bloody cider!!!;):D

NO, we drank some nice French beer. I did try to order the cider first though and they told me they'd run out but were getting some in soon; I posted about it on the assumption that they usually have it but now I'm not so sure.

So, to summarise: crepe and cider restaurant fails to provide crepe and cider.

That's bad news: confirming how difficult it is to run a restaurant, especially with ludicrous rates

Had they been better organised from the start and promoted themselves properly, it might have been different. But maybe not

FFS

We ought to have a separate thread just for that bloody property. It must have been shut and re-opened half a dozen times in the last however many years. Can't keep up with it

True enough. Most new places at least make the effort to deliver menus around the local neighbourhood. They didn't even bother doing that
