Twin Sisters: A World Apart

I've watched it now, and where before I was thinking there was a whole series of coincidences it was really just the one: the fact the Norwegian couple were delayed and the dresses (so two, combined into one, if you're being charitable). That's not even worthy of this conversation!

What were the other "number of coincidences that were truly unbelievable"?!
I guess it's relative to the individual viewer as to what constitutes "unbelievable".

The dresses were almost identical, (in colour, design and style), which is in itself a apt and uncanny coincidence given that these were identical twins. Also, both families should never have been within the same room as they'd been scheduled for different time slots. But for the fact that one of the families had been held back due to a technicality, they would never have met. I guess you also have to consider whether or not both families would have realised there were similarities between the two girls if they'd been wearing different clothing.

Right, so like I said that's two coincidences. While technically that is a number, it's not quite what I'd think of when told there are "a number of coincidences".

And as has been said upthread, while the particulars make for a good narrative the numbers of adoptions going ahead mean it would be odd if something like this didn't happen, and certainly doesn't suggest some kind of greater force guiding things. I mean, what about all those twins and families that never met, that don't even know each other exist? Where was their guiding force?

Christ, these boards have definitely got some seriously critical posters! Actually, I like that... it keeps me on my toes :D

I've already acknowledged the numerical odds argument with alsoknownas. And yes, on the face of it my astonishment doesn't necessarily warrant the idea that there were greater forces at play re: the identical twins connecting with one another. Even so, I am merely giving my own perspective/opinion, and acknowledge that others will disagree with me. That's fine, we're all entitled to our own viewpoints and opinions... it's all good.

I just think that science and mathematics have been seen to go through numerous paradigm shifts over time, and what is regarded as unscientific and merely mystical beliefs atm, may well become established fact in the future.

I read some comment on various other forums when this first came up (think there was one on Reddit), there appear to be a lot of twins separated at birth who don't feel much connection or find it hard to come to terms with the fact they have a twin sibling out there. Have these been rejected by your 'higher power'? Or is it simply that this story is inherently self-selecting (it is).

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here?

You're welcome :)

PS. I'm not ashamed to say that I was nearly in tears at times when watching the documentary.
I blubbed! I also missed the beginning so did not know how they had come to meet up.
