you didnt touch the arm, you had to press a button to play - skipping forward was a nightmare

but this is crazy-flyadocious: boombox + vertical turntable - the Sharp VZ-2000

I had one of these things once - a Roksan Xerxes with SME5 arm. Sounded great but weighed a ton and when the power supply went wobbly it cost so much to get it fixed, I traded it in for a Rega Planar 3.

yes

garrard are the ones but many people overlook thornes, they also did quality decks, some models "broadcast quality"

'Thorens', not 'Thornes'.

I have one (amongst many others), but don't use it much. (Not the £10K model! )

I had one too, years ago, can't remember the model but I do remember it had a weight on a piece of wire to balance the arm

They're nice turntables. I should really let mine go to summertime who will use it more, but I don't want to pay with it (notwithstanding I've v got three others c that get much more use).

I've got the Mark One and it likes to take its time reaching 33rpm :/

Maybe I need to change the belt....

Yeah, or could be that the pulley is loose (worth giving it a wiggle, to check), or a problem with the bearings (have a close listen).

how does it sound? is that the same as a P1? b/c the P1 appears to have a platter twice as deep as mine has. but mine's glass and is really cool.
