This year at the theatre....

Saw Standing at the Sky's Edge last week at the Olivier; bloody loved it. If you like Hawley's work (in the slightest) you'll love this piece.

Has already cost me extra as I'm ordering some Hawley CDs that I didn't have like Truelove's Gutter.

I'm generally no great fan of musical theatre, but I thought this was a really interesting, engaging and impressive theatrical experience; 5 * out of 5 from me.
I liked it but found it quite depressing.

I saw Sylvia in Tuesday which was very good. I saw it without Beverly Knight and was reminded 8 times during the booking process that it wasn't one of her nights. Don't think she was needed as the woman who played her part was great.

IKWYM but I knew enough of the play beforehand to be prepared for the grim reality of the plot, but the music and delivery of most of the songs made it pretty special for me. Glad you liked it.

I’ve been to the Leicester Square theatre twice last week. It’s a great venue £20/ ticket and 4 bars so no queues. Love it

I have 2 tickets for Drive Your Plow over the the Bones of the Dead tonight - Thurs 23 March at the Barbican - 19:45 start.

2 friends have had to drop out.

Anyone interested? Tickets were £70 and I would appreciate at least half of that if anyone wants to come. But if you're really skint, I'd rather someone come than nobody.

Message me if interested.

I saw that a few weeks ago, a solid 3 out of 5 for me. Which chimes with how I've always felt about Hawley's music; he's just a bit too fond of the major chords for me to ever really love him, and the show was a lot like that. Very well staged, very well performed - great band and wonderful, clever choreography - but a few too many oversung songs and obvious plot beats to be outstanding.

However, totally worth it for the most beautiful arrangement and performance of For Your Lover Give Some Time.

Yes the tracks from Truelove's Gutter were the stand-out ones for me too; I really enjoyed the full-on rendition of Open up your door.

Lucky enough to see Drive your plow over the bones of the dead at the Barbican this afternoon. Really enjoyed it and, perhaps more importantly, so did Mrs b and she's read the book. When we booked she said she was intrigued to see how they'd stage it and she was not disappointed at all...saying it was very true to the novel.

Sadly, someone's relative is gravely ill. So they gave me a last minute ticket to see Ocean at the end of the lane on Tues.
Never knew of its existence till now. But really looking forward to it. I've heard good things.

I saw Oklahoma the other week. It's certainly not the same show I saw with my Mum back in the 80s.
It was really sexy and pretty dark too. Some parts were absolutely brilliant and a bit shocking too. They made me feel sorry for Jud!

I am booked into that at the beginning of June. I've never seen it before. Got cheaper tickets as I'm on the Young Vic mailing list and they had a thing where you can get tickets for this at Young Vic prices.

I'm also booked in June for

The old Vic has a loyalty programme for people who live in Lambeth. 10% off tickets and you get points for money spent that goes into discounts.

I'm going to see Olkahoma on Tuesday. I haven't seen it before so am going with a completely open mind.

Saw 2.22 at Apollo in Shaftsbury Ave last month. Really enjoyed it, great cast and a great ending. I'd deliberately not googled anything, so as not to spoil the suprise.
A red neon "ssshhh please keep the secret" appears onstage after the final curtain.
It's touring soon, not sure with which cast, as even in the West End the cast changed every couple of months. The idea being to keep it fresh. Definitely recommend .
