Mrs Q and I spent a long weekend in Dublin and we were struggling to fit stuff in.

Walk around the city centre . IMHO the south side of the river (Dublin 2, etc) is better. You have Grafton St, Trinity, Pro Cathedral, Dawson St, Stephens Green all a stones throw from each other.
Going further out along the river you have Wood Quay (where they found an old Viking longboat and development of new buildings stopped (when resumed they put up the monstrosity that is the twin pepper pots), Pro Cathedral, Guiness store house, and a bit further out Phoenix Park (the ya-Zoo is in there !)

And then theres the pubs .... some of my fav's:
Oldest in Dublin: Brazen Head (thats along the river going to Qood Quay / Guiness etc IIRM)
The International Bar (they have comedy sessions) just off Grafton St
The Old Stand (if you like rugby) very close to International

(edit) just spotted on google that there is a Moon Gazing event in Phoenix Park on Sat night .... might not be your cuppa tea, but I loved the name given "C'mere till we look at the night sky" lol

When in doubt, get an old taxi (not an Uber) and (s)he will have great advice. They are like porters in a hospital .... the know whats going on & where!

Tourist: hey barman, how about some of that famous Dublin wit, please?
Barman: certainly sir, dry or sparkling?

Just to note that when I was there a few weeks' back for a 24-hour meet-and-drink, Trinity College Library had all their books out for some refurbishment work. Now to me, it made it less appealing at €18 to go in and look at a bookless library, but I'm guessing some people would actually want to see it that way.

I did the TripAdvisor thing and tried the Little Museum of Dublin. It's a silly bit of fun, but it's performance art dressed as a history lesson rather than any serious sort of delve into Dublin's history. Temple Bar is... Temple Bar. For better and for worse, it is - as someone else described it - an Irish-themed resort park for tourists. That's not to say it's bad. It's just up to you if that sounds awful or inviting.

The Archaeology Museum is free, and not half bad. It's not the V&A, but I found the bog bodies interesting. It's a damned sight better at the local stuff that takes up 3/4s of the museum. I wouldn't bother with the little Egyptian section.

....just remembered... There is a guided tour of Glasnevin Cemetery! Its not morbid. There was documentary about it (recently) called One Million Dubliners (or something like that) . Its fun, educational, visually impressive, and some really interesting & important people are resting there. The guide tells their stories ... Its not in the city centre, but not far out either. Its a real hidden treat.

Second vote for the national archaeology museum, I loved that. Shitloads of beautiful Celtic gold and silver. And I enjoyed Glasnevin cemetery too if you get a nice day.

My last time in Dublin was mental. I arrived late, on the last crossing of the day from Holyhead after deciding to visit last minute. The powers that be, see to it that even on a Monday night, the crack was everywhere.
It was bedlam.
Young’s kids selling rocks under the noses of the Guarda. Violence breaking out over pipe ownership.
Next day was incredibly hot, Couldn’t find a place to stay for under £400, had no phone power. Train to Belfast was quick and cheap.
The drugs problem is quite startling. Like a vampiric entity that has enveloped the most vulnerable there. It was not what I was expecting.

I spent 12 hours in Dublin in 2006, roughly 4 of them were running the marathon, don’t remember much about it as it was my third marathon (and country) in three days and hadn’t really slept that evening. I was on pure adrenaline by then really
