The Trump presidency

This is an illustration to those who said 'The Dems had majorities in the House and Senate. Why didn't they pass single payer?' Members of congress fight among themselves even within their own party.

I don't think single payer has much of a chance with a Congress where a good portion of Republicans think the AHCA wouldn't have gone far enough.

No, but you have to get the idea out there and argue for it. The worse the health care system gets, the more people will be looking for alternatives. You need to have a plan on the shelf and ready to go.

I always respect our Senator Ernie Chambers. Been in the legislature for 30 years, trying to repeal the death penalty. He almost got it done last year. He came { } this close. Undeterred, his death penalty repeal bill was right back on the agenda this session.

Trumpcare is dead. Obamacare continues.
Though suggestion is in some quarters that it's not because of a wish to keep Obamacare but because their replacement wasn't shitty enough yet, but I don't know whether or not this is a situation where they can come back with another replacement for/destruction of Obamacare

He failed because he offered them what they'd called for in opposition...which turns out to be not what they actually wanted. Anything 'stronger' will fail even more spectacularly.

:D I knew this was coming

I'm just a consumer here, but I want to consume the intelligent insights of P&P's finest, not Twitter by proxy.

If you were to start a thread for a class-based analysis of how the Democratic Party could start rebuilding itself from a local level up to defeat Trump and the neo-liberal agenda of both parties, it would probably cut down on the amount of complaining in this one, though you'd probably need to give it a snappier title.

So Trump's legislative plans have been thwarted by a group of obstinate Republicans in the House losers - I hope that at his next press conference, somebody asks Trump how it feels to be Barack Obama.

trumpified that for you.

So called 'democracy', do they not know who he is. (he clearly doesn't which is why he has to write his name on everything)

Well ACA stumbles on being diligently undermined as insurers have no clear signal from government. Obamacare is basically a flawed political compromise based on over complicated 90s conservative ideas that the GOP has since moved to the right of. The inept Trump will continue to blame Obama for all his failures and it'll probably work well enough for a second term.

Sanders if he'd somehow won would also be up to his neck in this shit trying to find a viable compromise or ending up doing fuck all like all the presidents since Nixon before Obama. Trump is getting nothing of substance done but doing fuck all is often the safer option.

But seeing him get a kick in the knackers from his own side, so early in his term? Doesn't bode well for a second term, or to be hopeful, that he will actually complete his first?

Lame duck President.

otoh it's early for that. Clinton got crushed on DADT, and won a second term. otoh, Trump's management style (if you want to call it that) will continue to lead to defeats, and i can see the GOP not uniting behind him in four years.
