The ONE car you wanted to own as a kid & still do

Griff

Hardly posting anymore
So when you were a nipper what was the one car you really wanted to own and that want has never really gone away.

Sat in a Citroen SM when I was a kid back in 1972 when my dad bought his GS, and fell in love with it.

Buying one would be an absolute money-pit and I'd be scared to drive it in case (when) something went wrong with it.

But if I had the money, it's my childhood fantasy to have one.

What about you?

I actually know how scary and shit these are to drive (having driven one 1 mile, stalled twice, half spun it once), but I don't care. I'd just have it in a garage and gaze at it's complete mentalness:

I'd also get the missus to do this in honour of my fave Lambo poster...

Mini convertible pram top, I got close. :)

I always fancied a Rolland Garros 306 or 205 too, maybe it's a racing green thing?! :D

Actual KITT, or just a Firebird with a red light under the bonnet and a tape recorded playing the cylon noise?

Well, they said it was the actual one. It was at Universal Studios and the voice was the exact voice.

I was only ten though.

Did you tell it it was shit and that you'd heard better in a Maestro, or was this a period of your life pre-grump?

What are you talking about? That doesn't even make sense.

I asked it how it was bulletproof and then switched off during the answer cos it was too spoddy for me to be interested in.

I always wanted a Sinclair C5.

Despite looking like a woman's shoe and powered by a washing machine motor, I just thought it was cool. Mind you, I did have a Sinclair Spectrum computer at the time so anything "Sinclair" was cool as far as I was concerned.

As a kid, when i fist started to notice cars, around 8/9 years old so 1981, I was totally in love with the Golf GTi. Remember the first time i saw one, bright red (now I know this to be MarsRed) i just stared at it for ages.

Now i own a 1983 GX, the final year's run-out model with GTi interior spec, but a 1.5 as oposed to 1.8. I decided against the GTI as so many had been ragged around for 25+ years, and this had a new engine

TBF, in the pictures they did look pretty cool.

Then I saw one, and saw how awful and plasticky and shit they actually are.

Another example of how SD telly let the people down.

Had they sorted out the athlete's calf clutch by that point?
