IIRC because the song versions featured on this release were all hometaped by nick in his bedroom back in the day, and when they found and rescued these recordings for relase, the original tapes had already (and inevitably) started to decay rather badly... for years and years... so we're lucky to hear these sounds at all...

yes, the sound is extremely poor and in some instances even distorted by tape warbles/rot, but you can still hear under all that what made him so special

but the quailty on the verson I've got isn't mostly that different to the songs that are used on family tree

eta: bought a vinyl version of Tanworth-In- Arden by mistake a couple of years back, not realising it was a bootleg and the sound quality on that version is terrible

New Edan track called ‘Sagittarius Rap’ - tis pretty good

Yeah, heard this one on the S/T site.

I always prefer his production to his rapping; I love that muddy sound.

His lo-fi psychedelic take on hip-hop certainly hits the spot. This isn't one of his best raps but when he's on form I can't think of many others that better him in the present day for his flow, word play and use of imagery :)

All That Punk 3cds
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - By The Way
(is it just me or does Carole sound a lot like the Muppet Babies theme tune? :D )

Innit. No worries on ASG, I shall be torturing s_w for info next time we have lunch. It's normally worthwhile.

I'm currently watching the live DVD, cos it was quicker to play French Guy from there than to unpack my laptop, which is the only place I have Paint As A Fragrance. :D

Prince Charles & City Beat Band - Stone Killers

Blimey, I wonder what ever became of him? I remember taping some of that off the radio (-Peel?...) in the 80's. Vague memories of him being featured on an early episode of The Tube (or similar) too...

He got the funk - that's for sure!

Back then, I think I was too young to really appreciate what 'funk' was; it was just this quirky/nastier version of disco music that I rather liked. Prince Charles probably had more of a lasting career with proper hardcore funk fans, but to teenage pop kids like me at the time, he wasn't much more than a flash in the pan. I imagine the other Prince started to really cross over about the same time, and then Prince Charles just somehow got lost down the back of the funky sofa... :(

I remember buying the Atomic Dog 12" then too (-again, I think it was featured on The Tube...), but not having the faintest idea who George Clinton or Funkadelic was. :o :D

Some random tracks on my work hard drive ...

edan - rock & roll
faith no more and boo ya tribe - another body murdered
pavement - stereo
the new pornographers - bones of an idol
turbulance - notorious
krust - kloakin' device
q-project - champion sound (total science hardcore will never die mix)

RFTC's "hot charity" (again), plus...

the ricochets - "made in the shade"
V/A - "whistlebait - 25 rockabilly rave-ups"
